With the current 3 Leaf AAL’s out there, modification to the factory pack (3rd Gen/TSB leaf packs) is typically needed for proper installation. This modification requires the rear clips to be cut off in order for the AAL to both fit and function properly. The downside to this modification is it increases the difficulty of installation, increases the install time which can cost more for those paying to have it installed, and it prevents the factory packs from being returned back to factory should one decide to do so.

With our new 3 Leaf AAL we designed it such that no modification to the factory pack is needed, we re-dimensioned the leafs to ensure a proper pyramid stack optimizing the performance of the packs, and we added a threaded hole to the clip in order to easily attach the e-brake bracket back in the factory location.

Key features of new HS 3 Leaf AAL (part # HS-TOY516-3AL):

    • Unlike the competition the new HS 3 leaf AAL has been redesigned to fit the 3rd Gen Tacoma and 2nd Gen TSB packs without having to cut off the rear factory pack clips.
    • The no modification installation makes the install quick and easier
    • Unlike some of the competition who use a flimsy 5mm gauge leaf for the bottom two leafs, each of our leafs are speced to provide both a quality ride and help prevent premature sag.
    • The 3 leaf AAL is designed to be installed without the factory overload. This improves the up travel allowing for a progressive response without the negative influence of the thick overload.
    • Threaded hole on clips for E-brake attachment keeping the brake line where it’s intended to be.
    • High quality e-coat finish helps prevent rust.
    • All new e-coated HS ubolts with tall nuts and thick washers.
    • Anti-friction/squeak pads are installed on both ends of the main leaf
    • Leafs have diamond cut ends
    • Each AAL is re-inspected here before being shipped out.
    Specifications:
    • Lift height = 1.5” without the overload. We are working on a 2” option
    • Factory pack arch improvement = 7%
    Here's some photos....
Photo A- competitors 3 leaf AAL which when installed interferes with rear factory pack clip requiring factory pack clip to be removed.

Photo B- New HS 3 leaf which does NOT require the rear clip to be removed and provides proper staggering of leafs.

Photo C- New HS 3 leaf, opposite end, which again provides proper staggering

Photo D- New HS 3 leaf with threaded hole for ebrake attachment using factory bolt

Photo E- New HS 3 leaf installed on factory pack, notice the additional arch obtained and overall fitment. This is a great way to turn your factory pack into a performance progressive response pack without braking the bank.

I'm glad to have found this and be the first to post. :)

I am by no means a "gear head" in any way, shape or form, so let me describe this in lay terms in my own way...

I was lucky enough to acquire one of the first installs with @HeadStrong Off-Road 's new 3rd Gen specific HS 3 Leaf AAL and I have to say that I am really pleased with the results.

The stock factory packs, to me, allowed the rear to bounce too much on trails or on curves with bumps, as if the rear got squirrely. Not out of control, but enough that I would notice the sponginess from time to time, but I just lived with it until I got wind of installing AALs and the likely benefits. I went with HSOR's G3 AALs and the rear definitely has less bounce, i.e. the sponginess is gone and I feel more in control, even when pushing it a bit on the trails. A day trip to the Anza Borrego desert left me chasing a friend in his version of the Indy 500 in the mostly sandy trails and these AAL's held up great and despite my breaking and accelerating on turns to avoid rocks or small culverts to keep up, I never felt like the back end got "loose."

The AAL's lift on my stock suspension did in fact give me 1.5" in the rear. Measurements were made before and after the trip so I can confirm that and there is a noticeable rake, which I personally like. I also made one long round-trip distance run from San Diego, CA to Phoenix, AZ ( virtually all freeway ) to help my dad move ( from his RV to a park model ) and I never noticed any issues on the freeway. Additionally, I did haul about 600 lbs of hard drives in the bed of the truck one day for about 50 miles on the freeway and didn't really notice anything "off" in the ride with the added weight and it was what I expected. I couldn't be happier with these AALs and I will do business with @HeadStrong Off-Road again as a result.

I’ve been eyeing the 6112/5160 kit on your site. While it’ll be a bit before I pull the trigger, will these redesigned ones be included if I choose the HS 3-Leaf aal? Just gotta wait for the stim-u-lift check

All our kits will have the option to choose the new AAL, but its currently unavailable. We are hoping to have it released in a couple weeks.

Thanks for the heads up. It’ll be a month or two before I can order. Take care!

    1. Do you have or can you provide an early release on installation? Looks like they should be simple compared to other options.

    2. Should be a match for 5160's with out travel issues ?

    3. Sign me up (I'll order) once they become available assuming #2 is a yes.

    Thanks!

#2 is a yes. No issues.

#3 let me know about #1 and we will take it from there.

just looking to be prepared with tools, etc. so I was looking for install instruction to review to be prepared.

? will these require the addition of a shim to the rear axel ?

and could you provide a product number so I know exactly what I am ordering (since they don't show on the gen 3 rear suspension page)

will do. Really no problem if you don't have them early - I will just keep an eye out for the release to purchase. Much better than options which require cutting/removal of the clip. Should be simple and not too time consuming. Do let me know if a shim is advised for the rear when adding these (presume if so they would be 3 degree ?)

    stuff and things...
good review. I'm glad i held off getting an AAL until now. I was considering getting a whole leaf pack replacement, but this honestly looks like a better option for my needs. Less than $200 and ships free...yes please! Finally will be able to get rid of the bro lean...

If you're a 3rd gen, I believe you should be getting the new AAL.

Right now it is hard to say for sure. We have it designed but with the COVID-19 stuff a lot of production is at a stand still.

I don't want to misspeak since this is Roberts baby but from what I understand the modification will be something that is available for individual purchase as well so people can convert their pack if they have the current model.
