This is why I try to suggest it whenever someone is in a similar spot - while not a terrible PITA, it definitely was an annoying :censored: task to remove then break down and reinstall them. I should've just ordered the kit with them installed in the first place.

I guess I was just trying to figure out all the weight you've added in addition to your shell to require an AAL.

I'm just glad I don't need it as I'm sure it would add some unnecessary height with the rack and RTT off. At that point, I'd have to go with a custom leaf pack which means more $$$ I don't want to spend.

In the back of my mind though, I sometimes feel like a camper shell would suit my needs better.

You can search my previous posts if you want, I've broken it down before since this has come up (AAL vs no AAL and shell). Hell, for shits and giggles I might just search and find it again and update with the added gear since that post.

I will say this, no way in hell would I put an RTT on top of the cap as is. I don't care what others have done or what the cap manufacturer says about static weight, no way would I risk it on a cap that isn't reinforced.

The cap is nice. I originally wanted it for the kid's travel gear and have a somewhat secure way of storing it/keeping it back there safe from private eyes and weather. Since then, I just like how it turned out. The only way I would replace it would be with the Thule TracRac system and a pop-up RTT like the iKamper. If I did that, I would slap a rack on the cab so I could move my gear there.

For now, it's destined to stay the way it is.

Hey, I value what people have to say about something...especially if they've got experience with said subject.

Taking out my leaf pack, and installing an AAL would be a small, but pain in the ass job I imagine but that's not what deters me from getting an AAL; what's deterring me is what I mentioned above and the added height I'd gain when my rack and RTT are off.

I had stinkbug when I first installed my Dakar's (which is normal) and I couldn't wait for it to go away.

I'd expect that same stinkbug effect with an AAL while running around unloaded. And I would not add any preload to my front suspension to make up in height. I really like my suspension the way it feels right now.

I know bud guess I should've been more clear since shit can easily come across wrong when reading it, if your setup works well, then ignore the AAL talk. If you ever went to a cap and did pull the bedrack and rtt, I'd look at it again at that point.

I hated the sag I saw after installed the full kit. It was minor but I could see it and the OCD demanded I fix it. Happy now.

One thing I just thought of, I wonder if the doublecab has a play into it all? Even before all of the mods, I remember accesscab always seemed to have a little higher ride height than the DC (at least in my eyes it did/does)

Monitoring WIN and some dude is asking how things are going in NV, guy responds with casinos are shutdown now. Then he asks if the CatHouse is closed down. lol. Guy responds with have no idea, leaving that one alone. Now he's rambling on about Walking Dead and Survivor and comparing it to the situation we are in. lol WTF?

I can see now how you'd need that AAL

That rack can't be light not to mention being a double cab.

Truck is in the shop for a few days, whenever I look outside I'm reminded of its absence by this big mud pile where it was last parked lol

You can tell where I park the Mercedes because of the very large oil stain under it.

I call it the Exxon Valdez II.

Don’t let looks deceive you, he’s complying with California’s mandatory green painted lawn laws. California hasn’t had a live lawn in years.
