I mentioned this in my radio thread, but I'm still drawing blanks.
    2001 Tacoma Xtra Cab 4WD 3.4L SR5.
I need a Reverse wire in the dash area for the back-up camera. I know I can get a reverse voltage in the back near the tail lights, but I'm struggling to find one in the cab. I've read no less than a dozen threads on the subject, but most threads are really old and pictures/schematics no longer present in the post. Best I can figure there is a white w/ blue stripe wire in the left kicker panel/under the carpet on the driver door side. I checked all white wires in that vicinity and no reverse voltage. I confirmed the wire color at the tail light (white w/ black stripe), but no signal in the cab on that color.
I ran the wire to the left kicker panel under the main fuse block before I buttoned the dash back up after radio install, so I hope to find a contact there. Worse case I'll run to the rear when I run the back up camera as I'll do that this weekend.

Thanks in advance for any help.

W-B wire is ground on Tacomas.

When I tapped into the reverse wire, I found it under the driver kick panel.

From the taillight, the wire color is R-B (red w/black stripe). This travels along the frame rail and comes into the cab under the driver seat.
There you will find the BN7 connector with pin 22 for this wire.
This then goes along the door sill to the kick panel, behind the dash, and to the park/neutral switch or back up light switch depending on AT or MT.

YOU NEED TO FIND THE R-B wire. See the attached diagram.

the RB wire is super easy to find under the driver's threshold. that's where i tapped it for reverse cam it works perfect.

I did over-complicated my setup just because I could :D. I run a wire from reverse light back to the cab and radio. Butt ... wait for it ... I included additional pods for reverse lights and a switch in the dash which I can turn on the camera and pods regardless of the reverse gear lever. So the setup includes two high current diodes (so the power from the switch does not feed back to reverse light switch and power from reverse light switch does not feed back power where the dash switch is connected). Because LED pods are very low power I did not need relay, they are powered directly from 10A switch. And because I have only one reverse light (the other lamp is for rear fog light) and it has LED bulb in it, I am not worrying about overloading the reverse switch as all I have take less than 1A anyway (stock reverse bulbs take 4A or more).

Thanks all, I'll check the red-blk wire tonight.

I was thinking about running some separate rear lights on a rocker w/ relay, but like the idea of changing to LED and just adding a switch in-line. Is the reverse light signal under the driver seat for both left and right, or is there another wire on the passenger side? Instead of diodes I could break the circuit with a double throw: regular reverse on one side 12v constant on other. Trailer hookup in the dark is an issue I'd like to solve.
I had a couple lights mounted to my hitch on my 87, run through a relay to a toggle inside. Just had to remember to turn off manually...

If you want to do what @RysiuM did, you can get a SPDT (could also use a DPDT) switch that will have 2 input legs and one output leg.
That's how I did it in my truck. The switch has one position for ON, one for OFF, and another for ON or AUTO.
This is a 10pk, but just to give you an idea: https://smile.amazon.com/URBEST-Roc...7?keywords=spdt+switch&qid=1585075915&sr=8-17

There is no wire on the passenger, the R-B on the driver side is for both.

    Clever

The difference is that when I turn on the camera manually my reverse lamp does not come on, just LED pods. Nothing major btw.

Yea mine works the same. The switch isolates the two circuits. When switched one way or the other, the opposite 12v+ line is completely disconnected.

    1) 12V+ in from rev circuit
    2) 12V+ in from battery
    3) line out to relay trigger

The 3 positions of the switch are 1-3, 2-3, or nothing.

There is a diagram of what I did:

    upload_2020-3-24_15-25-35.jpg

The idea was to be able to see the backup camera without turning on the engine. When engine is running and the reverse is put than the pods are lighting, and camera is working. When I turn on the override switch the power for pods and camera is drawn from ACC and the reverse light is not working. There are many ways to skin that cat, I just figured out it is the simplest for using it (the override switch is either on or off) and the the change in base wiring is minimal (100% reversible).
