He was a little sore yesterday so we took it easy.

    Just did a longer walk.
All the way to the creek and back!
Had to do it quick between downpours, no running.
Took off the leash so he could wade around.
Labs are like ducks they just gotta have water!

    Resting again now.
Big ol moose will always be my puppy boy.

There was a show I used to watch, hunting with dash and dez, he always ended each episode with some scene of his dog lying in a hammock being fanned by palm leaves while being massaged and fed treats by beautiful ladies or something like that and his hard and fast rule was "never spoil your bird dog"
    Haha
A rule Ive always lived by.

    Never spoil your hunting dog!
    Or any working dog.
    Any dog for that matter!
    Never, ever, spoil them.
    Lol

Moose is just one of his nicknames srry

No, hes only 6, no arthritis, mystery injury to his rear right, terrible painful spasms after a mystery siezure weeks ago.

    Treating it as nerve related.
Cant narrow it down to one single event or root cause for the injury.
We do play hard and hunt hard and sometimes we overdo it and wreck the house and/or crash into things.

Also with the 1hopping of the bally, sometimes I make a bad throw or he misjudges it and hyperextends or goes over backwards and crashes.

The only thing I know for sure is it started the day after the siezures.
I was hoping it skipped the males, one of his sisters has been treated for siezures most of her life.

Scary thing is one of his other sisters my brother had and was a good good sleepover playdates buddy girl just died from untreated siezures before xmas, so Im being serious about diagnosis/treatment and its scarier than it should be for his age.
This is 14yr old dog stuff to me.

    Xrays looked great....

    Cant find any torn ligaments/muscles.....

Have him down to 1 dasuquin 1 aspirin daily, heating pad, massage massage massage, rest and excercise.

Took an excellent turn for the better sarurday or would have been back to the vet yesterday.
Been a long slow recovery and still not out of the woods but progress is progress hes doing great after the truck ride sunday!

    Thanks for asking.

I never thought Id be that guy but I havent hunted birds since my bird dog got too old then passed away.

Cody is my buck hunting tracking dog.
Hes a pretty good blacktail retriever, bear chaser, mtn lion terrorizer.
    He love jackrabbits too.

The only birds Ive put him on has been mtn quail and grouse.

    Try some CBD oil?

That extended my last two dogs lives by years. It was amazing. One was 16 and the other was 14 years old.

    Yes!
Worked great to stop the whole body shudders and slow the spasms in the leg.
Also helped with the overall pain.

I get worried about mine, because “stop” is truly not in her vocabulary. We play to wear her down, but there’s that little voice in the back of my head...
    Hope yours heals soon!

I hear that. I stopped letting them chase deer because I was worried they'd get snagged or snake bit. Or dive off into some creekbed like you say.

What brand/where do you buy? We've experimented with CBD oil knowing their joints would give out eventually, as hard as they play.

I would have to ask my wife. It was expensive as hell (90.00 for small bottle), but we didn’t care. Totally worth it.

    I’ll get back with you.

Listen to that voice!! I had the same fear for years. This dog has made the most spectacular jumps over the years, and all the while, I kept hearing "you really need to lay off that, he's gonna injure himself..." But he loves it so much.

Thanks, he'll be ok. He is a Blue HEALER after all! I'll see myself out..

She doesn’t remember what brand. It was a higher dose since he was a large shepherd.
