My lens over the DTRL is starting to melt and actually cracked. Taking it to the dealer to have both headlight housings replaced next week under warranty. Anybody else have this problem?

there have been a few threads on it...some dealers are blaming the aftermarket HID lighting and not wanting to replace them under warranty (suggest converting back if you have it prior to taking it to dealer)

Converting it back to stock to get free work/replacement done? Why not just be honest and tell the truth...they will quickly recognize dishonesty. Bad advice........
You won't get far................. For what its worth.

Any HIDs (even PnP kits) when installed properly should not melt the HLs. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the OP is talking about the amber turn signal lens inside the HL that is melting. The DRLs on the 2nd gen uses the turn signals & not the driving lights like on the 1st gens. I've also notice the amber lens melted on some 2nd gens.

I think it would probably happen again with the replacements unless they changed the design to correct this. Either too close to the bulb or not sufficient ventilation for it. I would just disconnect the DRLs if it were me but we don't have DRL laws in my area like Canada.

Mine have melted but I only have aftermarket bulbs in there and I did the DTRL mod. I have heard of this happening to others as well.

That is correct. it is the lens over the DTRL's. My dealer doesn't have a problem with the HID's being there but I am going to swap them anyway so they don't end up fingering an expensive HID bulb and then have it blow.

My DRL's melted my ebay headlight lenses. I disabled to DRL's once it started happening.

So has anyone contacted Toyota corporate about this? Having DRLs melt the light housing is a pretty serious issue. I would like to add them to my truck, but don't want to fry the housings. DRLs are a safety issue, so they should be more concerned about it.

It's not the headlight lens thats melting it's the blinker lens where the DRL's are. Installing HID's has nothing to do with the DRL's.

My new housings will be in on Tuesday. Dealer said "No Problem" and I even confessed about the HID's. Service guy told me mine was the second one he's seen.

Both of my stock DTRLs have that bubbled up/melted look which started about 2 1/2 yrs ago..unfortunately my truck was out of Wrty so never took to stealerhship.. Working on just replacing both Headlights with newer ones since the outside plastic is starting to fog as well.
