Good idea on the steel square. If I put the bolt down from the tent into the rack, what do I use for a nut? Slide a nut into the t-slot in the rack? Bolt would have to be the perfect length that way.

I go all the way through and put a lock nut on the bottom. You could revers that though, and put the bolts up through the rack.

What I wouldn't do though is trust those aluminum extrusions to hold the bolt in, they bend if you wheel too hard.

By aluminum extrusions you mean the t-slot that the carriage bolt rides in?

    hey all,

I hit up Tepui, now Thule, to get a replacement cover for my 2016 Kukenam RTT but they are currently on back order till June. They have black and gray color options and these covers will come with the new Thule/Tepui Logo for $140. HOWEVER they did mention that the cover I have is their old old logo (2 logos ago) and they are selling gray covers with their old logo (probably most recent before the Thule buyout) covers for 30% off right now but you have to call in to get it.

I'm on my 3rd ARB Cover, but I've had the same tent for 11 years now and it's always outside and used 100+ nights a year. The ARB covers run about $170 for a replacement.

Woah! That actually gives me a lot of confidence about the longevity of these things. Guess yours is nice and broken in by now.

BTW, what is your mattress setup? The 2 inch foam mattress by itself is not remotely comfortable in my Tepui Low Pro. I was leaning towards supplementing with an air mattress either above or beneath it, because I won't be able to close my tent if I go adding in another foam topper.

This current tent is actually my 3rd tent. I had two previously, and without exception all of the included foam mattresses suck. While I realize comfort is a subjective measurement, They were not working for me. I tried all the normal means to improve comfort, additional foam, thicker sleeping bags, etc. And I ran in to all the associated problems with each. Either still not comfortable enough, or too much bedding to close the tent tight enough to get the cover all the way on. You could of course remove the bedding and store it in your vehicle to close the tent.... but that kinda misses one of the main benefits of having a RTT to begin with.

    So...

I tried air mattresses... and while I find them reasonably comfortable, they are not sized very well for my RTT. The tent dimensions inside on the ARB are 56" x 96" Too narrow for a full size mattress, and too wide for a twin, also most air mattresses are only about 75 to 80 inches long, leaving you with 18ish inches of nothing at the foot of the tent. The other main issues with air mattresses is that most are way too thick and eat up all of the headroom in the tent.

So I picked a random air mattress manufacturer and called. I initially reached customer service, they put me through to a product development guy and I explained that I needed a mattress with somewhat odd dimensions, and he was like no problem at all. Extra $20 on top of the normal price and I had shipped to me an air mattress that is 5" thick, 55" x 90" to fit the tent perfectly. I added the anti fatigue mats to the base of the tent to cover the opening so that the air mattress doesn't get pinched while opening, and now we can keep all the bedding we want in the tent and close it easier than with just the stock foam mattress. We keep a 12 volt air mattress pump to air it up each night.
