Let's See Some Softoppers

Yeah, I haven't tried it yet, but it's not really a concern for me. I was really just looking for a way to mount the CVT hardshell that I've had in my garage for 3 months.

 

I’m pretty sure that if I pull my center support bar I can fold the topper up and down. I have to test it when I get the truck back this week.

 

Classic question.

 

I should see what it takes to fold ours, i.e. which bars need removal. Give me something to do during this quarantine.

 

Probably the center 2 or 3 bars would do it.

For those of you with the soft-topper, what's your favorite cleaning product? Mine's getting a little dingy from drive-thru carwash soap residue. It's 2 years old and due for a good scrub.

 

I’m curious as well, and also the method. This last time of car washing I soaked the side in aerospace 303 and used a brush in my drill and it worked pretty well, but could’ve been better.

 

I was hella proactive in the cleaning and upkeep of the Softopper when I first got it. I went with this stuff recommended by Softopper. These days I just hit it with the pressure washer and give it a good brush.

 

That product is awesome. I use it on my tonneau, which is constructed of Haartz woven fabric material.

I use the same cleaning product as above. Works great.

I am curious how some of you keep the front from looking like the photo below...? I installed velcro on the inside of the bed to keep the INNER flap of the front panel of the topper in place, but I can never keep the OUTER flap in the tiny space between the bed and cab. Sometimes I can jam it in there and it stays but most of the time it looks like this. Magnets? Velcro?

 

Hmm, mine just sorta stays there. Maybe you need to shift the rails closer towards the cab a hair?

 

@EatSleepTacos is probably right. It looks like the top of the front bar has enough of a gap to direct air down towards the front flap. You could always put some velcro on the top of that header rail to try and keep the window a little tighter.

Well. What’s the solution?

 

haha... just slid the rails approximately 0.534279 inches towards the cab, shoved the outer flap into the slot between the bed and cab. Drove her on the highway and........

......

Voila!

 

This, and since the front straps down a little more (loosen rear straps first).

 

I use Chemical Guys Convertible Top Cleaner and Sealer.

Just did mine last week.

 

So with bikes loaded up I never put the flap down, seems impossible to do so. I just roll it up and leave it. When bikes are off, I take my tailgate pad off the truck cause honestly it's easier for me to just put the pad on when the bikes go on.

That being said, you really don't need that flap to stay secure against the tailgate unless you are concerned with dust getting in. The snap in bar is what needs to be secure if the rear flap is down. If you want a way to tack the edge of the rear flap down to your tailgate pad, I would say the easiest would be to throw a strip of velcro along the area where the flap meets it. Seems like that would be the best option as I don't see magnets being strong enough to go through any tailgate pads.
