Is there a basement below that floor? If so, just pull the ABS pipe and put that trap adapter down below the floor/in the basement ceiling.. no floor damage necessary. I'm guessing you're on a slab maybe though being in CA..?

I might be more willing to cut 1/2" off the bottom of that trap adapter instead and mock it up to see if it's good enough.. but that wouldn't be 'code' at all.. however, if the brass is going to slip down past the joint anyway.. whats the big deal really.

My Aunt and Uncle live on a 200 acre parcel in Dahlonega GA and have several of these throughout the property deep in the woods and rumor is they're burial mounds and they do find gold in the creeks and washes that run from the hills every so often

That part of the house is not a slab, but 1' - 1.5' crawl space at the top of a sloping hillside that I have to shimmy under pipes and ducts for 20' or so. Plus, part of my "subfloor" is horizontal 2x12s running the length of the house (so my floor thickness is 1 1/2" + 3/4" ply + hardybacker + thinset + marble tile).

I went with the "no one's going to see this anyway" route. I'll probably fill the corners with white caulk or something and get a cover to fit.

 

My wife keeps bees and that's her mead and cider...

I can't 100% tell the slope of the ground and your weed block. So this goes with a grain of salt... I would make sure you're slopping away from the house for surface drainage not towards the house. Otherwise you're going to be looking for trouble with your slab or foundation down the road.

 

where do you think all that water goes that’s in the soil, around the foundation anyway. The slight slope you’d be able to give that garden bed isn’t going to change how much water is around the foundation.

 

You are correct! My yard does slope slightly towards my house. The yard and driveway though were designed to channel any runoff away from the house and I've never had any issues. I did build up the area along the house there slightly to minimize any puddling. Thanks for looking out!

Was wondering if this could also be used similar to concrete in the sense that I would like to anchor a bolt in it rather than put a post in it. Fill the hole with the foam, level off the top and use a bolt to anchor in a post bracket and then the post goes in the bracket. In the event that I have to remove the fence (we're installing one around our HVACs), I don't want the post all the way in the ground.

Thoughts?

 

I researched that stuff last year when I put in my flagpole, some of the reviews had it “floating” out of the ground so I went with sakrete quick set concrete. Went well with that.
