Hope everyone is well and safe out there. Just wanted to give you all an update from the Epicenter of New Jersey (Bergen County). They key message is: Stay isolated, Stay away from other people, Do not put yourself in a situation where you can be exposed and then expose your family. The news is doing an OK job at depicting the reality of what we're experiencing here. Despite the crazies buying up all the water and toilet paper two weeks ago- The supply chain seems to be functioning well. No "Shortage" of food and the daily staples. The real issue is how to get supplies if you did not stock up three weeks ago? - Order online (If you can find it...- Most are sold out online) and have it delivered to your house. Yes, an Amazon worker has been infected in Queens NY and people are worried that their packages are infected. Open the box outside wearing rubber gloves to avoid any contamination. If your worried about the contents wipe down with rubbing alcohol.
My Daughter is a teacher in the South Bronx and lives in the Epicenter of NYC. She is still teaching daily online to keep some sort of normalcy for her students. New Yorkers think they're impervious to this virus and are still gathering in parks- Big mistake!!! Keep away from others who may be infected! You don't know who has it and who could pass it along to you. Better safe than sorry.... This virus spread is doubling in NYC every 2 to 3 days (Not fake news - real numbers). Don't put yourself in harms way!
The college that my youngest attends has been shut down and turned into a test center. They have been flooded by people who just want to see if they've been infected. They are wasting the tests for people who're actually infected. They are getting online at 3:00 AM and stopped letting people in by the time they opened up at 8:00 AM. We are still in short supply of tests in NJ. A personal friend who is sick that has been tested on March 17th are still waiting for results (10 days +).
My oldest son is active Army National Guard and Law Enforcement in Central NJ. He is deployed at another testing facility on another college campus. They do not have enough personal protection equipment to keep themselves safe. One mask and a pair of gloves per shift just doesn't cut it! He said people are showing up just to check and see if they've been infected. No high temperature, no coughing.... "Just want to see...."
The primary care hospitals in Bergen County are overflowing with infected people. The healthcare specialists are now coming down with the virus. We are running out of health care professional as well as tests and protection devices.
NYC and NJ have not hit the peak yet. It has not flattened and it continues to spread.
I'm not a doctor or a healthcare provider and do not claim to be one. I'm a computer engineer - All I can say is use common sense. Stock up with food and supplies so you don't have to go out to the store and put yourself at risk. Stay home-Keep away from people or situations that can potentially infect you. This is the only way to stop the spread of this catastrophe. No cure right now, tests take too long and they're only 90% accurate anyhow.
Be safe and we'll catch you on the other side.

In am glad to hear that your family is feeling better.

Taking so long to get results is concerning, very concerning. If this is typical, then it's no wonder the numbers in the US have been so relatively low. I hope that you keep pushing for those results and report it to the state.

Thanks for keeping everyone up to date.

I will say that I believe the shelter in place order that is now in effect in Pennsylvania has been well adopted from my experience today.
I went to my local Wegmans to pick up a few perishable items and everyone was maintaining the recommended social distancing. The store was well stocked and well staffed. Hand sanitizer and wipes at every entrance.
There were some obvious items that were low or out of stock such as certain meats and the paper products but that was to be expected.
Clear signs on the certain items limiting them to one per customer.
I went through the self check out as I always do and they had two workers sanitizing the touchscreens in between each and every customer.
The regular checkout lines maintained social distancing by having the customers load up at the end of the conveyor belt and then only approach the cashier to finalize the transaction. There was clearly marked spaces that allowed for a non-crowded line. That said, there was plenty of cashiers and no one was really waiting.
I was able to get what I wanted in a safe and efficient manner.
I hope that everyone has a similar experience because this is what we are going to have to do for a while in order to prevent the spread.

I think it might be common for folks who don’t end up needing to go to the hospital. We’ve been waiting 8 days for results as of now...

So I had a telehealth doctors visit and she thinks I caught Mono. I never had it as a kid, and havent been making out with strangers so how the fuck that happened who knows. But it's apparently been in my system for over a month now. Lastnight fever/chills bad and this morning I feel better. Lymph nodes still swollen, throat sore, cough. Now once better my mission is to get my immune system back up to spec so it's in fighting condition supposing I do come into contact with someone sick.

Anyne got good suggestions on how to make sure your immune system is healthy? Specific fruits? anything?

No alcohol, get lots of sleep. Sleep as much as you can. Eat lots of brightly colored fruits and veggies and take a fish oil supplement and multivitamin. And drink plenty of milk and OJ. Get some sunshine when you’re feeling up to it.

I take solaray 1000 mg of vitamin c daily. B-complex with biovlavinoids helps too. B complex is good all around and the bioflavinoids helps enter your system faster and absorbs more of the vitamin. Elderberry gummies every other day will help as well.

Fruits and leafy greens fight inflammation, which is just as important as boosting your immune system. Darker red/blue color berries have the antioxidants, grapes have resveratrol. I make smoothies from mixed frozen berries and stuff about a cup of spinach in there (can't taste it) with vanilla almond milk. As others said lots of fruits, veggies, sleep, etc. A 20 minute walk a day. I take fish oil, tumeric, and vitamin D daily. Keep in mind most vitamins and supplements are fat soluble, so they have to be taken with food in order to be absorbed best. Put good things in your body to fuel it - you don't put shit gas in your truck, right? Same concept!

Eating healthy of course, but I highly recommend taking a daily multi vitamin as well as taking a zinc supplement daily. Zinc works great to combat the common cold virus.

If you've ever taken Zicam at the onset of a cold (stuff works great), it's basically a zinc supplement.

I'm not the greatest about eating my fruits and veggies, I take men's daily multivitamin and last time I had my blood work done at the doctor all levels came back healthy. Not saying it's a proper substitute for healthy eating but it does help.

Hope she is OK and stabilizing. In Sonoma County they WILL NOT even test you if you have symptoms, you have to be a high risk candidate and show a bunch of symptoms. They do not have enough test kits. The one good thing here is that we have had wildfires every year so most people have air filters and n95 mask in bulk already. I know I have at least a dozen at the house all the time and have ones I can take with me to work. There has been a shelter order for a week and a half I believe. I can't remember as I have been at work and commute is a ghost town. I really hope your lady comes out of it OK. One of my friends that is roughly my age posted her childhood best friend died of it already in her mid 30s. I am taking all the immune supplements I can get! Please let us know as soon as your lady is in the clear!

    TW,

After nearly TWO weeks of waiting..we called and kicked up a huge fuss, demanding we speak to the CNO and that we’d be filing a complaint ...all of a sudden they had our results..

some background info... they had told us two days ago that our results were in North Carolina at a lab and that they were backed up...

    the test results...

    are “inconclusive”.

So, we shall remain in quarantine

Did they lose our swab ? Are they really “inconclusive” ?

Who knows. But that being said ... everyone is healthy and doing well at our household.

We have so much love for this community ! Please everyone stay safe and take care of yourselves.

Glad to hear everyone is doing well. That being said to have to wait all this time then have to demand to be told results and then to be told the results are inconclusive just leaves a big WTF in my head. Anyway, stay safe.

They likely contaminated the test or didn't do it right. Most people have never had to administer this test. The human error portion, especially in a panicked populace is extremely high. And medical people are freaking out worse than normal people. They are even more frightened because it is their job to be calm, and their job to deal with the sick people, and its above all of their heads already and we have been caught with our pants down unprepared. The number of reported cases is extremely low because there is no way to test currently. Honestly I feel like I may have caught something first week of February but Kaiser just says Take some Antibiotics until it is gone. Now two months later I'm still not at 100% but I no longer have any health coverage as of March 1st, so double fucked. Glad to hear that your lady is on the mend though. Would be nice to have a conclusive result though.

I would think with an inconclusive test and everyone in the household doing well that it's very close to as good as it gets during these times.
Thanks for your updates. My wife and I have been praying for your household and ours of course. And I must say it seems to be working. I've been much calmer the past few days as opposed to the very beginning of this pandemic.
    Stay healthy and safe.

Glad you all are doing well!

My girlfriend, who I live with, is a NP here in east Tennessee and her practice is the test center for one of the counties here. She's had 3 tests come back positive on patients so far. I went in for an ear infection last Sunday and the doctor that looked at me was sent home to quarantine today with a 104 fever. Prob a matter of time till we get it...

The good news is they are finally stocked up on supplies ( gloves, masks, etc... ) and tests after a rough start. The turnaround is also speeding up. Going to be a long ride waiting all this out.
