Big waste of time today and really pissed me off. Had spoken with the service advisor ahead of time to be sure I got an experienced tech and he "said he was very familiar with install" Get a phone call 4 hours after dropping off truck to say tech refuses to install as it is an aftermarket part and was not familiar with the process. I was fucking pissed.

Why even go to a dealer in the first place?

Was going because of getting the frame sprayed and needed alignment. Figured just get it all done. They ended up doing nothing.

Did you tell them it was going to be an aftermarket part?

Find a mechanic/shop that has experience with the ECGS bushing install, have them perform the install, and move on.

That's not something you should be doing to a dealer for. Alignment and frame sure, but I'm not surprised at all they don't want to fuck with an aftermarket bushing in the front diff.

At the end of the day its about liability and if the tech and service advisor don't feel comfortable installing an aftermarket part especially a driveline related one that's their right. Sucks but ya I wouldn't have expected them to be okay with that, half the dealers around here source out their pre lifted new trucks to other shops.

Right, but the rub here appears to be that the OP called and got service department approval beforehand, then they refused to do the work after he dropped off the vehicle.

Hmm, I wonder if the adviser didn't really know what it entailed, I get it but at the end of the day the liability is on them once the part is installed and their right to refuse installation.

No dealership is going to remove an OEM part and install an aftermarket one. It’s a huge liability that 99.9% of dealerships simply won’t take.

That's probably what happened. I was just pointing out that IMO the OP's attitude is justified.

Most dealerships won't even consider installing an aftermarket part you bring in. In addition to Liability and warranty issues they don't want their tech fiddling around with something they haven't seen before. These guys work on all Toyota's, not just Tacomas. They usually have a very strict policy on these things. No reason you can't have them do everything else if they do good work.

I would be mad that they took 4 hours to tell you they don't install customer provided aftermarket parts. I have never seen a dealer that would do that. Most shops won't even do that. They claim it is because they can't warranty the work. The reality is they can't make money off parts they are not selling.

They just have to write “no warranty, expressed or implied” on the paperwork.

Is the aftermarket bushing that different than oem?
