    I have no idea !!

Set the flowmeters up Years ago by dialing things back to porosity appears and then increase the flow.

Outside inside have not touched them in years.

Then I never weld outside in gale force winds needing shielding gas

Yea exactly, for double the volume (from 60 to 120 bottle) you're barely paying any extra and the bottle is still very maneuverable

Thats exactly why I have multiple bottles, they always seem to run out at the worst times! Plus if im doing a big weekend project and nobody is open for gas, i'd be screwed without a backup bottle. I used to just take the bottles in once my regulator showed near empty but I was wasting gas and money doing this without squeezing every bit of the gas out of the bottles.

Depends what store you go to for the owning/rental ordeal. I own all my bottles and the smallest I have is a 120, largest being a 250cf bottle. Owning is definitely the way to go and cheapest in the long run

I usually have the shop door open so don't particularly want to take a chance with porosity and running low cfh. Theres some stuff that would be a complete nightmare to grind out if needed, ha.

How much more time, per mount, do you feel is required to relocate the 3rd gen cab mounts compared to 2nd gen?

It's hard to say. I think it comes down to our different welding styles. You said yourself that you're not a fast welder and when we talked about the Marlin LCA gussets we each had different experiences. I did the 3rd relocate in just over 4 hours and I felt like that was a really long time for that job. You said you took 5 hours to complete one side so go figure. :notsure: The majority of my time was spent working around the driver's side mount and trying to be careful not to cut the wire harness that runs between the mount and the cab. I basically had to nibble at the mount a little at a time with a cutoff disc and Sawzall with different length blades. Even with the harness moved out of the way as much as I could, it was still too close to really get after the mount comfortably. The passenger's side went relatively quick- I'd say about 2/3 to 3/4 of the time was spent on the driver's side. The one benefit of 3rd over 2nd is that they don't have that huge hole in the frame that needs to be patched before you weld on the new mount so there's a little time saved there. Either way it was a dirty mess and I was covered in welder's glitter (grinding dust) afterwards.

Since we’re on the topic, anyone know why my welder constantly flows gas? As soon as I crack the bottle gas starts flowing through the tip whether the welder is on or off it still does it. Tired of blowing through gas...

Internal regulator issues? There might be a problem with the valve at the drive mechanism.

Thanks, I need a good, bigger than 4.5" angle grinder. That would have made it a lot faster I think. Most of my time is spent cleaning the old remnants of the mounts flush with the frame. Welding that took like 15 minutes tops per side.

Sounds like a bad gas valve/solenoid. With the regulator on, gas flows to the solenoid. The solenoid lets gas through when the trigger on the mig gun is pulled. If the trigger isn't pulled, either the solenoid is bad, or its getting a false reading from the electronics in the machine telling it to stay open. I'd definitely put my money on the bad gas solenoid though.

All this talk makes me want to go weld something. I think I'll go look at my scrap pile later and put something together out of boredom.

If your flow meter or flow gauge has the pressure to high (not the flow) it will force past the solenoid .

What kind of machine does it have a preflow timer they can fail in the closed position .

Most times the coils fail in the solenoid then it does not energize .

    Dirt holding the solenoid open.

Leak before the solenoid then you would not be getting good gas coverage

I ended up going grocery shopping and that satisfied my need to get up and do something. Maybe tomorrow!

Go talk to air gas if your still in Vegas. They’ll get you going and most the time have some decent deals/rebates

Will do. That's where I used to get my CO2 tank refilled and always had good customer service from them.
