Thinking of stepping up to a Tundra. Input please from those that have done it...

Do it. The only reason to get a Tacoma over the Tundra is the actual size of the truck. The Tacoma is easier to maneuver, fits in smaller places, easier to park in a parking lot, and gives you more room in your garage or driveway.
If you don’t care about the size, then a Tundra is a no brainer

 

Ditch the trailer I get 16-17 with a sled in the back and towing a snow bike

 

I just read this today. Impressive if that is what ends up being produced. Guessing plenty will be sold.

 

I switched from a Tundra to a Tacoma and I'm glad I did. Easier to park and in my opinion look cooler.

 

I almost find this comment comical after hearing all the Toyota folks hammering the Ford guys because they drive twin turbocharged pickups. The Toyota guys saying that turbos had no place in trucks and won't be very reliable. Not saying that is your view, but that argument I see made all the time.

very true. I would be very surprised if they put turbo engine into a toyota (not just tundra) within a few year. May be (just may be) hybrid or more efficient V8 on next gen tundra.

 

The biggest issue I have is with the camper, I’m just shy of 8 feet tall so it doesn’t fit in a lot of places. It was hard finding a place with a door tall enough to be able to store it and don’t bother trying to go in a parking garage.

 

Next gen tundra is a turbo v6 plus a hybrid option. At least that’s what the rumor mill says.

the turbo v6 is already in use in Lexus models.

 

LOL... that's why tundra is at the very bottom of my list.... I won't be able to even enter the underground garage in downtown LA.

 

I can't believe how long the cantilever is on that fold out. Crazy stuff man.

 

Right on Lexus, but isn't that on LC (i.e. 100K sticker price)? If they're putting that on tundras (even de-tuned engine), there most likely will be significant price increase which can make tundras less marketable but at the same time will make them very unique.

 

It's likely they would make it up on volume. They don't make many LC's, so the engine is expensive. Make 250K of them instead of 15K and the price will go way down. Plus they'll use cheaper (heavier) parts everywhere they can.

 

hmm.. makes sense. If they can make pricing attractive, may be I'll move and pull the trigger... LOL

 

It’s a bit over 7 foot. It’s awesome to have the covered space. Setup takes a minute or two and packing up is less than 5.

after being at expo East when it rained the entire weekend, I was totally sold on the covered space the habitat offered and the huge amount of interior space if you wanted to stay inside.

 

Well, I pulled the trigger. It's a Certified 2018 Crewmax 4x4 with the SR5 Upgrade Pkg and only 19k miles. Ride and room is incredible. What y'all think?

 

Just some initial thoughts. When I park in the garage, I always back in. I have almost exactly the same clearance in front and back as the Tacoma(DBlCab longbed) had when I pulled in. I looked up the dimensions last night cause I kept hearing how MASSIVE the Tundra was. It's deceiving. It does look big, but I've owned a couple F150 SuperCrews from 2015 to 2018s. The overall length and width is basically the same for the Tundra and the Fords. Another observation is, like the Tacoma, this thing just drives super tight. No squeaks, no rattles, etc. Plans are to level it, some nice AT tires, a bedmat and a rollup tonneau. Last thought...It's really cool when ya turn the key to get that initial V8 rumble. Between the 2.7 Ecoboosts(great engines, imo) and the Taco's V6, I forgot what that sound was like.
