Yes sir, Marlin provided coupler. This would be the third coupler I am changing.

First one measured ~3.793", 2nd one measured 3.623" and the one I have installed right now (latest from marlin) is 3.514".

Took some measurements and if my math is correct I should have 3.521" available in between output/input shafts, so barely under.

    2nd and 3rd coupler comparison.jpg
2nd and 3rd transmission side coupler.

    length calculations.jpg

Please note, once the coupler was fully in. The final inner measurement is 2.675", marlin measured theirs to be 2.7". So there shouldn't be any preloading anymore.
    coupler installed on transmission.jpg

Still don't know how this is causing my splines to strip .

I have one sitting at home I'll measure for you tonight. If it's shorter, you're welcome to it. I am skeptical of Marlin's explanation and also curious to know how that would cause stripping on the output side of the crawlbox/input of the tcase. I would think it would create an issue with you even being able to bolt the crawl box to the trans to begin with, and that it would create the higher forces between the trans and the crawlbox, not the crawlbox and the tcase.

the pics of the crawl box looking bone dry would give me alot of cause for concern.

how much gear oil is being put into the crawl box?

I wouldn't know a specific amount, I fill it up till it start dripping out of the fill hole. Then drive it around and repeat. As instructed by marlin.

Once I fill it up this time will take note of how much it took. Also I have been using half a qt of lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer, recommended by wyatt.

I guess is kind of close to the first one, every coupler I have received after the first one has been cut down to prevent “preloading”.

Don’t know why my transmission is different from any other tacoma’s transmission that will cause preloading.

So I do Hydraulic motors and pumps using jack shafts or splines couplers all the time. Seems to me the coupler should have a bit of slack when everything is bolted up tight. Maybe a few thousandths or so. I also have a tendency to use anti seize inside the coupler incase any non lubrication issues arise. just my .02

    Thanks, appreciate it!
The sticks are from RADesigns, the boot was done by a local shop, and the knobs I got from Davez Offroad.

Yea it was a car shop that does custom interior work.
The guy that did it was recommended to me by a friend at another shop.
