I agree! I've had them for almost 18 years and in that time I've shopped around and received some lower rates but never switched. In my experience the customer service has been outstanding and the one claim I made when I was hit was very easy and moved along swiftly.

    This!
In some cases the opposite! There may be someone new at the office, or something changed- who are going to be the first clients they raise rates on, the new ones that more than likely shopped around? Or the long term clients that appear to just assume they're getting the best deal?

BTW, I've been with State Farm for decades and probably should listen to my own advice...

I've tried to give Geico and Progressive my business over the last 20 years, but each time they're too expensive on their quote for less coverage. Just make sure if you do get a price you're comparing apples to apples.

I've used American Auto Club, CNA Casualty and State Farm

I tried Geico, they were always higher on their quotes.

My brother is a retired insurance agent and he said his biggest profits were made from his longest running customers. Loyalty to your insurance company is EXPENSIVE. They know you're not going to shop around so up up up go your rates. My in laws just switched from State Farm after 30 years to USAA and are now saving almost 50% on two vehicles and home owners. My father in law is ex military too but just assumed his loyalty was getting him the best rates and didnt want to part ways with his agent. All that money he pissed away thinking his long time agent was doing him right. Like with cable tv and credit cards...if you're not shopping around you're most likely getting screwed.

Our agent is connected to several companies, why I called him when National General went up, he said I can try this and bam, cut our cost almost in half. It did help with Progressive we already have our camper and golf cart insured with them.

I added my 2020 in January and it doubled my rates as well (I added it, not upgraded so some is expected). Found more competitive rates elsewhere, unfortunately my Insurance company couldn't compete with others.

When shopping for insurance consider all of your needs and not just the vehicle.
Having home/renter, vehicle, umbrella polices with the same company can save you money.

I have been with one company for over 45 years. My rate changes have been reasonable over time. Most changes were do to newer vehicles or different house.

2020 vehicles are more expensive to repair than older vehicles that do not have all of the electronics and led features.

My personal experience may not apply to you but here goes: had a 2011 camry with only liability and uninsured motorist. Just upgraded to 2020 Tacoma TRD OR with full coverage at $500 deductible and payoff in event of total. My rate went up $55ish bucks. That's with Progressive. Granted I did the plug in thing when I first went to them a few years back and got about 20% discount, seems by far more reasonable than what they're trying to hit you with. Hope this helps.

    Final Outcome:

My State (Washington) was closed down due to the Corona Virus Pandemic before I was able to find new Insurance, so it has taken me until now to accomplish this change.

During the Economic Shutdown I educated myself with a lot of research on the Internet, and made a lot of phone calls to various Independent Insurance Agents getting quotes; and in the process I learned some important things about Auto Insurance.

    1) In today's Market, where I live, everybody has better rates than State Farm. This wasn't the case in the past, but it is now.

    2) The vast majority of the Auto Insurance Companies were all very close to each other with their rates - plus or minus $100 for a year.

    3) Different Independent Insurance Agents had a significant variation in their price quotes even when it was for the same Insurance Company & Coverage - plus or minus $100 for a year. This must be due to their 'mark-up' and their profit margins.

Ultimately, I went with Progressive. I got the most coverage for the least amount with them - $928 for a year, for much more/better coverage than I had with State Farm; and State Farm wanted $1254 a year for their 'less' coverage.
There was quite a variation in the Progressive rates between the different Independent Agents, so I went with the lowest one.
I could have gotten it for even less if I went with Progressive Direct, on-line or on the phone; but I prefer to have a local Agent, so I paid about $100 more for that privilege.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. Thank you for your help, for sharing your experiences, and for advising with your expertise. You are greatly appreciated !

Too lazy to read the whole thread, but 1254 for just you? Nutso.

I'm on state farm with wife (near Portland) and we pay that much for full coverage for my 19 Taco and a 16 Acura RDX together.

And to think, Farmers wanted DOUBLE that amount here

Yep, just me, and for just the one vehicle.
For my 2015 Tacoma (exact same Model) State Farm only charged me about $700 a year.
Bought the same truck in a 2020 and they jacked my rates up to $1254.
30 years without an accident or a claim, and that's what I get from them!

So, now I have much better coverage (like zero deductible for glass, and higher coverage amounts), for about three-quarters of what State Farm was charging me; and for only a couple hundred dollars more than I was paying for my old 2015 Tacoma. (All of these numbers are for 12 months).

I just now finished typing up my Cancellation Letter - I'm going to hand-deliver it myself, with a great big smile on my face !

hey come to Rhode Island. 20 Tacoma and wife 15 Camry hybrid. Clean records. 180/mo is the lowest we found. Typical is about 200/mo for us. RI car insurance rates are like top 5 In the country. I think Michigan is worse.

also to add, the Tacoma is actually cheaper to insure than my 12 Mazda 3 I traded in for it worth about 4 at trade in.

I was paying $1175 per year for my 2016 Taco and my wife’s 2016 RAV4. We are both over 50 with a good driving record. Traded them both in the last 6 weeks and added a 2020 Taco and a 2020 RAV4 for the wife. Been with Erie for over 25 years and they rewarded me with a $450 increase. Called and bitched and got it down to a $250 increase. Still too much. Bye Bye Erie!
