have a cheap little s&w shield 9mm. I love it, doesn’t break the bank and hasn’t let me down yet.

also have a glock 22, 40s&w. That I love as well. Glock stays at the bedside, shield stays in the truck

i was looking at those in a .45 ACP as well, so many options out there. But its nice to hear actual reviews from people that own them.

that would be my main form of keeping it on the go, with the NM losing its mind over TP seems like an obvi to do.

My 2 cents. Get something you can carry all the time. I used to carry a beretta 92FS which is a large frame and heavy gun. It was big enough it didn't get carried all the time. I now carry the Glock 43. It's super easy to carry all the time. Unless there is a compelling reason not to carry it all the time, you should consider carrying all the time. Either a gun is something I might one day need, or it is not. If I knew where and when I would need a gun. I know exactly what to do. Not be there. It's because I don't know where and when that carrying all the time makes sense to me. How much time do I have to go out to the truck to retrieve it? I don't feel paranoid. I barely think about it, to be honest. I just believe if I were to need it, I would likely not have time to go somewhere to get it. Also, if you had time to go some where to get a gun, you might now be out of harms way and should seriously consider staying out of harms way unless you have a love one still in harms way. I am a fan of subcompacts for daily carry.

Someone I know and respect used to carry the glock 43 and now carries the sig p365 and thinks that it is a better gun. I don't have experience with it. It had problems when it first came out but they fixed it apparently.

Shield is solid, beretta is also a great truck/range gun

I used the Auto Hobby shop on base when I did some work recently. That's a great place to do heavy work needing a lift.

If the SHTF, the larger heavier pistol like the Beretta is better. It has a longer sight radius (then my G43) and therefore more accurate, and more firepower as a result of the longer barrel (more time for the powder to burn). It also holds more rounds. The heavier pistol also absorbs recoil better. A lot of people think the Glock 19 is one of the top compromise carry guns out there. It is light weight, holds more rounds, isn't too large or too small. Glocks have looser tolerances (like an AK) so it is highly reliable. I like the blocky looks, but some people don't. Some people also don't like polymer but I think it is a proven technology. It may not last many generations but so what. The Glock 19 can take the 33 round mag or the Glock 17 mags if needed. If you only get one handgun, that would be a good choice but it is only a compact gun instead of a subcompact, single stack like the Glock 43. If you won't carry the larger G19, then get the smaller one.

Hate to admit it but these old bones have gotten recoil sensitive so I picked up a Beretta 81 in 32 ACP. 2 mags for a total of 26 rounds.
For those of you that say it is not enough gun talk to Adolf Hitler and Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. Oh I forgot they are dead, killed by a 32 ACP.

A .38 special would be a comfortable gun to carry. Easy to conceal and still packs a punch.

A lot of people love the Ruger LCR in .357 and carry it loaded with 38 Special. One of the best, small revolvers. Easy to carry.

Hope everyone is enjoying and making the most of this time, gotta do stuff to keep from going crazy. I have made a few purchases lately getting the truck back up and running and taking it off the back burner.:spending:

Got the front end back together. New CV's, painted the UCA, new upper and lower ball joints, wheel bearings, and tie rod ends. Also replaced brake pads and rotors and bled the system. Holy shit what a difference! Good thing I wear my seatbelt or I would have eaten the steering wheel.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a roof rack. I have been wanting one for quite a while but really didnt like the Prinsu style that EVERYONE makes now. I went with ARB rails and Smittybilt Defender rack. Pretty sturdy quality for the rack but we will see how it holds up to time. Hopefully it dosent live up to its nickname of "Shittybilt".

Next is the Snorkel. I have put this off for years but finally went with Dobinson, decent price and everyone seems to be happy with it. Everyone freaks out about cutting holes in the fender, but it wasnt bad at all. If you want a snorkel dont cry about some holes, Measure once, cut 3 times is my motto :sawzall::itllbuffout::crapstorm:. Hardest part was putting the far front bolt and hose clamp under the fender

I have skids, sliders and SOS Concepts shackle flip coming soon. Maybe get my rear some long shocks and shock relocation kits to actually be able to flex it out. All depends on My stimulus money coming

It feels good to be proud of my truck, its similar but definitely mine not just another face in the crowd.

Okay here we go; tire question:
Hey guys what tires do you like to run? We have a ton of sharp rocks on the trails in this state. You think the sidewalls on duratracs are too whimpy? Whats tires have you had good experience with out here?

I’ve been leaning toward the c-load duratracs in 265/75 because the tread looks very capable and they are pretty lightweight (45lb). Tire weight matters to me because I’m on stock gears and dont wanna fuck up my transmission. I also have to drive from Abq to Grants every week and i dont want to strain my truck’s performance goin up those hills at 75-80mph. That’s a serious commute, I don’t just have to drive around town ya know?

Figured I would ask my fellow New Mexicans because i feel we’re in a different terrain than a lot of the others on TW.
