A lot of user probably don't know as they don't actively follow the develoment thread, but us transitioning from tunes to tuning software has been in the works for well over a year. It has been planned, even before all of these events. These events just pushed it to the top. As I expect and posted a while ago, if the 3.5 goes the same route as the 4.0 did with tuning, when HP Tuners releases for it, our tunes will pretty much die off anyway. So we are pushing to get our software to the front line, so we can continue to support this community with the best options possible.

Theres a local speed shop that tunes on a rolling highway, and unless he can manage to unlock some substantial additional hidden power if/when HP offers support, ill just stick with OV. Something alot of people dont realize is the cost of personal tunes, writing files and testing said files are 80-100 an hour plus the key fee from HP. I let him test on my mustang (coyote was new at the time) and got a discount and it still ran me 380 bones.

I'd stick with OVTune over others.

So mad right now. Tried to order a flash kit finally. They sold out at the exact moment I'm about to purchase it. Beyond pissed off. Been waiting on this for months, finally able to get it while on sale. Told the wife, tried to buy, sold out literally the moment I'm trying to buy it. I give up.

    Unbelievable.

That's the end of my rant.

(Edited because I'm way more angry about this than I should be.)

I took my MT 2016 to Mountain States Toyota, in Denver, explained the update, explained this thread, and they refused to plug the truck into Techstream. "It says it's only for an automatic, so we're not going to do it." They said I could pay an hourly rate to have it done. It was a frustrating morning, after a two hour wait. I may try it with my Tactrix cable, just nervous to do it myself and have no warranty coverage...

all the files you need are in @tonered signature

Apparently I was in the right place at the right time. Was considering this tune among other with tax return money and jumped on the clearance price. Looking forward to getting my kit!

It is definitely not worth wasting the time at the dealer.

The effect on your warranty is no different between applying the TSB tune or OVT.

I couldn't talk my :censored: stealership lack-of-service department into the TSB for my MT either.

I ended up paying the hourly rate (for about 10 minutes work). Then I later ended up loading TS on my laptop and was able to change several settings like the blinkers and buzzers. I really should have saved the time and frustration and done the TSB myself. I probably could have afforded another mod :goingcrazy:

It's not straight forward and can be frustrating on its own but it's not impossible to get through. Lots of good folks (@tonered, @lapoltba, @Shellshock, etc.) to help too.

Wow, took some time off from here only to come back to a whirlwind post by Mat. Good thing 2.0 is out and I'm 99% sure I will keep the fob tune and base tune forever. Might look into vf tuner once more info is out, but really why? 2.0 is solid.

Phew I’m finally back again, I see there is a 2.0 tune! I haven’t tuned my truck in long time, think I’m still running 1.03b or maybe 1.04 :/ I definitely have to relearn to do this. So my flash manager version 1.0 didn’t look like the instructions now on the website. Downloaded it again and see that it’s now 1.0.4 which looks like the version from the website. I downloaded the “GrdDrivers” again for good measure and then followed the instructions on the site to clear local data in flash manager and download new tunes. I see the superfob 2.0 (super excited to try it) and moved that to my OVtune folder.

This is where I have a question, it says put “NO” under dongle tab. Which I do have one, so I’m going to leave it to yes unless there are other special instructions I’m not aware of? I didn’t see anything else on the site unless I overlooked it. Also, because I downloaded the new flash manager, do I have to register my kit with OV again? Or is the fact that I registered it before saved in that little USB connected to my computer? I never saw anything about Pcm” listed in instructions, and that’s something I still have too. If I simply plug in my laptop to my truck it should all be good?

Hoping someone with the old dongle kit who has done this can shed some light, thanks guys!

All you need to do is download flash manager. Click update. Goto the menu and select dongle. Then download your files and flash. They’ll have a .pcm extension.

Then go flash your truck. Nothing else you need to do. No registration or other updates.

Might want to include a bit more info ;)

Uninstall all previous versions of flash manager, download newest flash manger from this link.https://www.ovtuned.com/blogs/news/flash-manager-1-3-0-released-with-new-logger

Clear all stored data and install all software (under first tab) click update, select your year ect. and then under flashing select legacy software and pick your file.

I've been looking at getting the OVTune setup recently, looks like I may have both lucked out and gotten unlucky on my timing. I like the idea of the user editable tunes through the vF Tuner and it seems like it will be a lower total price than previous. But also unlucky since I have to wait an unknown amount of time to make it a reality.

My question that I didn't see answered (might've missed it) is if the 2.0 tunes are going to be the example tunes in the vF Tuner version.
