It depends on how you look at it. If the price of bonds drops, it’s the same as stocks, you will lose money if you sell. If you’re talking about the yield, I saw yesterday that the yield on the short term bonds went negative. I was actually wondering that too, do you pay someone to hold bonds with negative yield? If so, who do you pay? This is a good question.

Okay, so not as dumb as it sounded at first...that's good at least :D :D

Sounds like I'll probably be keeping e-fund in a savings account and not risk anything at all there. Or maybe I'll split it, 3 mos in savings, 3 mos in bonds? Working toward 9 mos, maybe do the last 3 mos in stocks since 9 mos is a hell of an e fund. We'll see.

People are buying bonds and playing them like stocks, buy low and sell high. That is making the yields pretty crazy lately, jumping up and down because of all the buying and selling. I don't know if that is unprecedented, but I never knew people did this until recently.

    My free advice:
Put three months in a money market or savings with some sort of yield, with the rest laddered into CDs.

Here's a piece of the bailout that could affect retired people. It could mess up dividends for ETF's big time.

Might do that. I've just been using an Ally savings account. I'll take a look at doing the CDs option. Thanks

This is the most concerning part of this whole situation to me so far. That should mostly apply to airlines, cruise lines, etc. I hope consumer staples don't need the bailout.

If cruise lines get one penny of bailout money I'm going to be pissed. Most of them are flagged off shore and employ non us citizens.

Airlines and other can be argued as being an essential economic service, cruise lines not so much, floating cess pools.

Good IMO! I would like to see some non layoff clauses in there for a certain period of time if there aren't already.

One of my mREITs (LADR) is up over 100% today. I give up on trying to make sense of anything!

From a principle perspective yes I completely agree - but if I make a whole bunch of money off them I may change my tune lol

Why does Suze Orman annoy me so much?

I see she got some print today with basic, obvious advice.

I just can't take her seriously.

Fuck her and her 4 million retirement recommendation.

I am planning to dump some mREITS and maybe some BDCs too. I won't take a loss, so I'll hold them forever if needed. I will get out if they break even. That money will go into lower yielding, steadier stocks.

Fuck the airlines. We shouldn't be bailing them out, let the bond holders take the assets and build something new after they file BK. They've been fucking us for years and need some payback. The seats have gotten cramped, the Wi Fi never works, the luggage fees the list goes on and on.

Yea and 2 going under and leaving one left will improve evreything you complain about. Monopolys only improve services and lower consumer prices.

I would normally agree with you, especially after working for one, but this was a unilateral shut down of their business with factors out side their control, and they were doing pretty damn good from a business perspective before this. Most of the shit you are complaining about is brought on by consumer demands. Cheapest price for the maximum service. Want a bigger seat, pay more for a bigger one.

Well I see they are not included in the package. I sold yesterday, but I may buy again before all of this is over.

It's not like the planes, staff and hubs disappear. When corporations figure out that there's no bailout coming maybe next time they'll be more prudent instead of buying back shares so some flunky CEO and executives can get a bonuses.

Most of these suits can't think any further than the stock price

I have owned MAIN for a while, as well as ARCC. I am down so much on both, I just want to get out at break even. They're too volatile, maybe good to trade but not good to hold for steady income. The whole point of them is steady income, so it's strange that they're so volatile.
