That definitely sucks, especially since the Senate passed an 880 page bill last night (that wasn't available for review until 2 hours prior to the vote, but that's another issue) that included low interest loans to businesses (and grants to small businesses).

As to the firing by text, that is a shitty way to find out. Having been on both sides of the table, I know how difficult it is to have to let someone go. It's especially tough when the circumstances are beyond your control.

Wow, sorry to hear. That is extremely unprofessional. How old is that guy? He should have called to explain the issue, apologize and then advise that you would receive a hard copy letter in the mail for documentation purposes.

I get these are hard times, but there is no excuse for this sort of thing. I hope you weren't being paid under the table because it will most likely limit your eligibility for unemployment.

Shutting down the economy for this stupid virus is insane. The majority of people I talk to would rather stay working and risk getting sick than lose their entire income for an undetermined amount of time. We ride motorcycles. That poses a lot higher risk to our lives than COVID-19.

Yes and no. Even with preventive measures in place hospitals and health care facilities are nearing capacity. Florida has a population of over 21 million, but (as of yesterday) only 23,000 had been tested for COVID-19, and of those 10% have confirmed positive (with 1% of the confirmed cases resulting in fatalities related to the virus). Extrapolate that data and you potentially have over 2 million residents carrying the disease and over 20 thousand fatalities.

The smart thing to do right now is simply stay away from other people unless absolutely necessary until the virus runs its course. With every social interaction you risk resetting the clock to zero and starting the whole mess over again.

You can't just assume that the numbers will extrapolate in that way. Calculating the death rate using current statistics is a flawed because of the extremely high probability that there are thousands of people that have not been tested/ confirmed because they experience little to no symptoms. Asking the elderly and those with weakened immune systems to self quarantine seems very reasonable, but enacting "Marshall73" law on the entire country is not (sorry, I couldn't resist the pun)... I live my life based on logic, reason & probability. I stand by the fact that I have a higher probability of dying while riding my motorcycle than from the coronavirus. And I get that it's not all about me, hence my reasoning for agreeing that elderly and those with compromised immune systems should isolate themselves.

im sick of all this motorcycles are dangerous talk.... probability tells me I have a greater chance of death moving down the street in a car...

probability also tells me I have a greater chance of getting away with rape than I do getting nabbed...

portability is just not the greatest guide for living my life...

as far as the virus goes, the numbers today will not be the numbers tomorrow, so again using that probability today may not pan out too well tomorrow.

and back on topic: today another item arrived for the xr50 project

You ordering online or do you have a local place that you can buy them from? I ended up having to order the Hot Cams assorted kit because my local Suzuki dealership would not sell individual shims.

You still have to factor in known variables and at the very least use extrapolated data to establish some sort of baseline to trend from. As part of my job I am required to apply the same methodology to provide epidemiology statistics to local, national, and international regulatory agencies. While the source data may appear irrelevant, the methodology has proven accurate time and time again.

Perhaps if there hadn't been a handful of people that tested positive for COVID-19 going out to festivals, fairs, and concerts, as well as traveling through the air in big metal petri dishes, the virus wouldn't be as widespread as it is.

As much as I despise any sort of government authority or infringements on liberty, people intentionally or knowingly putting at others at risk for the sake of "I do what I want" drives home the fact that some people have devolved into idiots that have to be parented from cradle to grave.
