that’s fair, it’s the same material, just without the unnecessary length. But to each their own. I personally don’t want it past my knees

I'm so jelly. We have 3 inches of fresh trail destroying snow as of this morning. :(

And the ski resorts are all closed so it's not even a win on that front.

lol. snowshoeing up is about the same pace as touring up. it's coming down that is the suck.
You ahve to dedicate yourself to getting your setup done. I never got my touring setup done until I told myself that I was gonna do it for sure this year. took a little while too, looking for sales and working through connections and stuff. but got it done and got my aiare lvl 1 done as well. it'll serve me well for the years to come. hopefully.

Honestly, I meant to, but I want to get my avy1 before I do, and theyre always during the week mostly, so it got back burnered.

Id def ski down if I snowshoed up, I dont feel like blowing out my knees and hamstrings trying to come down on shoes.

My current shorts are like an inch too short and constantly hang on the top edge of the knee pads which is somewhat bothersome. So I was actually looking to go longer and also narrower fit I think. Plus it's dumb but they look goofy with a stripe of PNW ghost skin between the pad and shorts.

Zoic Ether shorts are perfect for me. Sit about mid knee and still cover the pads when pedalling. Baggy, but not too baggy. Def not as slim fit as some baggies though.

I would get your setup before you take a class. the class has outdoor time so you need to know how to tour before taking the course. but definitely take the course before you get into some serious stuff. and if you go out before, know how to use your gear (beacon, probe, shovel) and go with people who know what they're doing. :)

This is really my root cause. I know all of one person who tours, and he isn't the guy you'd want to be a rookie with. He brought me into mountain biking and 4 broken ribs and 9 stitches in my shin later, I learned not to heed the words "follow me, you'll be fine" when they come from him.

Anybody have a setup where they mount their bike on top of a tonneau cover?

my idea here is that I could have a bakflip or similar, with the bike mounted on a fork mount / rear wheel tray on top for long trips, then just flip it up and sling the bike over the tailgate for day trips. Trouble here is how to get something to mount to over the top of it and still be able to flip it up without a bunch of time adding/removing a rack.

Just finished up a small drawer. Not as elaborate as most here on TW, but made out of spare wood and parts that I had laying around the garage to help fill the crippling boredom that is "working from home". Holds a good amount of stuff, and matches the footprint of my fridge and preserves some bed space up front for gas/water/chairs, etc that I normally bring with me camping. Lockable with a padlock, and is bolted through the bed with a pair of 1/4" bolts to keep it from shifting/being lifted out. THink I'll keep my bike stuff in here so it doesnt get as funky in the cab in the warmer months.

Stick with roll-up or retractable tonneau covers if you want to continue accessing the whole bed.

My setup includes a roll-up tonneau cover, rack system, RTT, and bike tray that all work together and still allows full access to the bed while everything is mounted above. In the winter, I remove the RTT and crossbars and just use a tailgate pad or a hitch rack for day trips.

(I have since replaced the yakima roof tray seen in the top pic with a 1up roof tray that doubles as an extra hitch tray if/when I use my 1up hitch rack. MUCH better choice)
