Parking Brake Alarm and Light Issue

I recently had the Parking Brake light and alarm go off in my 2010 Taco. I did everything i could to get it to stop and nothing has worked. The brake works fine, as do the antilocks. I even took it to the dealership and there computers said that the ABS module needed to be replaced to stop the alarm, though the actual ABS system was working properly. This is estimated to be around 2500$ to do and it seems ridiculous to spend that kind of money just to stop some annoying beep. is there any possible way I can bypass this somehow?Any ideas out there?

I'll assume that you don't have an ABS Light on the dash illuminated and just the Brake LED is on and beeping.

The first two things to check would be the switch on the parking brake actuator.

Also check the Brake Master Cylinder fluid level.

No Abs light flashing, correct.
Fluids are topped off, parking brake actuator is unplugged and nothing changes.
It drives normally, could I just turn off that alarm somehow?

 

The parking brake switch being unplugged could be an issue. If you look at the drawing provided above it should be a normally closed switch. With it unplugged it would be the same as with the parking brake engaged, open circuit which would cause the beeping and alarm.

If the master cylinder is topped up, I would suspect the parking brake switch.

 

Is there any way for me to test the switch?

 

If it’s not the switch etc and you resort to changing the module try find a used one with low miles.

I had this happen to me- bad abs module, triggered ABS and brake light to stay on. I couldn’t pass safety check w those lights on. Shop told me $1200 for new module. I found a used one for $240 and it fixed my problem

 

Get a Digital Multimeter and test the wires on the switch for continuity. It should read OL ( open circuit ) when the brake is actuated and closed zero ohms when the switch is not actuated.

 

Where do I buy a replacement abs module and do I need a Toyota mechanic to install this?

Looks correct. I would compare the part numbers to make sure or at least get a return policy with the seller.

 

Not looking likely to fix this anytime soon, would it be at all possible to disarm the alarm? Maybe cutting a cord or something?
