Removing the antenna

So I've been fantasizing about getting a hidden antenna for my radio (I don't use the XM, and I'm just going to let it expire). After looking around a bit, I came to a dillema. How to remove the stock antenna, and fill in the resulting hole.

Anyone done this to theirs (or other vehicles)? Would you even recommend it? Would it leave a scar?

 

I wouldnt spend the time/money... but thats just me.

Get a stubby. Best look, factory reception still works, etc.

Unless you want to remove antenna, take off fender, weld plate into fender, grind excessive weld, bondo, sand, prime, paint then put fender back on...

 

That's what I wasn't looking forward to. More work than necessary. I'm a lazy MoFo.

is there such thing? i would love a stubby. my antenna makes wind noises after about 80-90 mph. at first i was thinking to take my antenna into a hardware store or crown bolt and try to find a black screw/bolt with the exact same threads to fill the hole. with the scion TC stubby antenna's fit on our tacomas?

How's that Shorty work for you compared to the stocker antenna? I don't listen to the radio a whole too much, but I hear the Stubby ones suck as far as reception goes.

 

shorty works good, same reception as factory. but on their site you wont find a stubby, you can either get a 8" or 14" billet.

 

Gotcha, thanks! Good to know...my antenna now keeps smacking the swing arm to the parking garage at work and I'm not even lifted. I was wondering about these half-size antennas.

 

i was thinkin about this the other day while watchin my antenna flap back and forth in the wind....they give us the antenna for the xm, why cant they incorporate an antenna into that? my wife's camry has a radio antenna built into the xm antenna...

 

Shorty works like stock...not that I'd ever know. I tested it once when installing it, and it picked up all the same frequencies with equal clarity.

But that's moot for me - only thing I listen to in my vehicles is my iPod. This was mainly for aesthetics and to keep it from thrashing tree branches.

 

you guys dont thing the stubby scion tc antenna will fit on ours?
