Those jobs were a good start for me and where I ended up. Now I just do it with the native ones in the wild, especially threatened/endangered ones.

 

He texted me last night, I’d logged out of this place for the last time a few months ago, but figured I’d at least pop in and say hey, spread some well wishes given the situation some may be in these days.

Yes. I’m way north of there. Lots of deep holes and a strong undercurrent. I slipped in knee deep water and went for a ride, ending up plastered against a bridge pier. The current was trying to pull me to the side of it. It felt like an eternity. I was terrified and was sure that I was going to die that day. You can only be terrified for so long. A couple of boats were going up and down the river but over too far to hear me screaming and couldn’t see me because only my head was above the water. My legs were cramping and the pain was excruciating. I made peace that I was going to die but what kept me going was that I was trying to find a way to let my mother know that I was ok with dying so it didn’t kill her. A boat with 3 guys came between my pier and the next and I saw one guy point at me. They turned around and tried to grab me as they went by going down river but were too far. He turned around facing upstream and used the motor to fight the current as he slowly came up to me. The guy in front told me to be calm and he will pull me in. He reached and I reached and he got one of my arms. They took me up river to our campsite and told my friends father who took me along. He let me rest up for a bit, gave me lunch and took me home. I missed out on the rest of the trip but I didn’t care. Fuck that river.
