Sister was. She spent 15 years with MCC (Montana Conservation Corps), the canceled all youth programs through the year. Which is basically the only type of programs they have. They maintain a lot of the hiking trails in MT, WY, and the Dakotas.

I don’t know what you do for work but I just don’t get why employers are laying off people because of this. I mean what happens when things start getting back on track and works carries on as normal. Where are their employees?? Now you gotta hire them all back? Or are they going to get new staff?

Maybe we could meet up soon! As long as you stay 6 feet away... This whole quarantine is really giving me a lot of free time to look for coyotes and fish.

I think in “some” cases the smaller businesses are doing it because not only the being able to afford paying them thing, but so the employees can file for unemployment. Not the best decision, but in some cases, I think they are trying to do it for the employee. Of course that doesn’t help with the stress of what do I do after. So if it’s not accompanied by a “we plan to rehire you after,” it’s kind of moot. I think everyone is just at a loss of what to do to keep their companies afloat. This is such an unprecedented situation. I’m not defending the approach as much as expressing the confusion everyone is feeling.

No I get it I wasn’t trying to rant or anything it just kinda sucks hearing friends and family losing their job for this. Because yeah there is A LOT of uncertainty about it.

I didn’t take it that way, hope I didn’t come across as scolding! Like you said, just so much uncertainty. I don’t know that anyone has the right answer.

From a health concern, I think SIP is the right thing to do because we aren’t doing it on our own. Hell the sheriffs dept is still doing CCWs right now. People hacking in the building and crowding in the lobby. Maybe I’d get behind it if we weren’t open carry in the city and concealed in the county WITHOUT the CCW. From an economic standpoint, this is going to hurt a lot of Montanans and Americans.

In MT? Ah yeah... pretty easily actually.

edit; except in tourist season along the known popular rivers.

The MCC does good stuff. I hope they are giving everyone the opportunity to be hired back if they wish?

the plan was to lay us off so that we can collect unemployment and qualify for COBRA insurance coverage. we would all be hired back in the end.

but for now it looks like we are "essential" and are staying open. maybe its a different set of rules when 98% of your client base are 1%-ers :notsure:

combat fishing on the Kenai. I have seen that in person and its not pretty

it was pretty busy out the last couple times i went for a drive here in the valley. the parking areas in headwaters and long dry creek rd, madison road and norris road were almost all packed.

was up there .... 3 years ago... with @Kyitty there was a bad washout that took out a culvert and i doubt they replaced that. there was a couple pretty muddy areas near the end and one stretch has some pretty deep ruts that you need to try to straddle for a hundred yards or so. otherwise his truck made it no problem. definitely wouldn't go without sliders and a winch if you're flying solo. the bulk of the damage to the trail seems to be from utvs and the like. lot worse that it was when the TW meet went up there in 2012
I went up a little ways last fall and the good news is that the bulk of the road construction and bridge replacement are done so the first stretch of the dirt road after natural bridge falls is in good shape. i only got about 6 or 7 miles up due to snow.

this was probably one of the worst mud holes that we came across. you can see folks have been driving everywhere but on the trail to avoid the mud. sad thing was the actual trail was the best route as it had the least amount of water. no idea why folks were driving up on the grass on the right or through the who know how deep mud on the left

I’ve gone camping out there the last few years. It’s definitely gotten easier with the road improvements. My favorite spot to camp is the last site before the Independence trail. It’s accessible fairly early. We’ve camped as early as April with no issues (other than a little chilly as expected). I haven’t quite made it to the top yet, but I’d say probably July/August would be your best bet. Last summer I went in mid June and turned around 2 miles before the end of the trail due to snow. Probably when kids are older we’ll push harder, but if you have little ones it might be too long of an excursion.

It's fine. Nothing that bad. Was there 2 years ago. Pretty simple but fun trail. Best part is to hike to the top of Monument peak honestly.

Did a small trip report here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...kensteins-helper.390488/page-43#post-18479064

    Lots of photos.

Because they like the mud. When we were there the ATVers went in and out of the holes 3-4 times each full throttle.
