3rd Gen HID vs LED vs Halogen H11 projector headlights

So what bulb is recommended for a 6000k? I’m not looking to win a contest here. Just need my lights to match up to other lights and have some decent output.

 

You can see the review of the hikari eye of megatron bulbs right in this thread. They are the thinnest cross section led drop in bulb that crashnburn80 has tested. They barely outperform the OEM long life H11 bulb. Any high performance H11 outperforms them, and the H9 swap blows them out of the water (and will also increase some glare, to an extent).

The OP also tested HID setups, which perform well but require much more precise aim, and still likely cause far too much glare for oncoming traffic. The hid bulbs are noted to suffer from "tacoma bounce" so that's another net negative.

You should care more about your lights ability to perform, than their look at the end of the day.

 

The other thing lots of the LED shops do is test at very short distances, which conceals the lack of focus and highly inflates the output intensity values compared to what a driver will see in a real world application. I've seen some test as short as 12'. The best I've seen is Diode Dynamics which tests at 50'. I test at 18' indoors do to space limitation, and 42' outdoors which I do now primarily for testing LED focus.

If you are set on 6000k the Hikari Ultras are the best drop in replacement I have tested. Not to be confused with the worse 'new' Hikaris. You want the Ultras, they were reviewed in post #3 with the other LEDs. As others mentioned they are outperformed by performance halogen alternatives. The replacement Morimoto LEDs (I think you mentioned later) are not recommended, even though peak lux reading are just above stock, the focus is poor due to their wide design and the hotspot is dipped far lower in the pattern than it should be.

Maybe yours don’t but my buddy wants all white lights so really it should matter what you think? Keep yours the way you want.

 

I really should get those knocked out since we are under a stay at home order anyway. If the rain holds off I’ll see if I can get those checked off my to-do list tonight.

 

A friend told me to tell you to tell your friend to forget about LED headlights and to use H9 bulbs instead.

you should do a test on the tundra Sport headlights with built in LEDs that’s what I’m running curious to see the numbers there

Although the point still stands. Pretty easy to ask @crashnburn80 pop over to tundras.com and have a tundra light review there. I mean, this is a Tacoma specific lighting thread.

 

Could of been H9 led never specified. I did ask crashnburn80? Then you butted in? People on tundras.com have Tacoma’s and post I don’t see any remarks making them feel unwelcomed.

A serious thread vs a joking around thread. Asked a serious questions just wanted serious answers don’t see why it’s hard? If I wanted the best halogen bulb I would of asked but no I asked for just a simple drop in 6000k led bulb.
