Same here lately. Maybe we need to wait for the inevitable crash mid-week the next week to make the buys.

Yet another way to look at it. Mine too. Not sure who your company uses, but the buy date for you lags (record date in your account) . You can of course see the price per share. With dividends you can calculate the price per share and then you will make a funny face. The price is not that day. The price is 1-2-3 or even 4 days ahead. Because that is how many investment firms do it when DRIPing.

Oh and WSJ says we did indeed break out of a bear market.

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/global-stock-markets-dow-update-3-26-2020-11585196225?mod=djemalertNEWS

    "
U.S. stocks soared higher Thursday, even after data showed the ranks of unemployed Americans surged in the past week, signaling that investors remain hopeful that a $2 trillion stimulus package can help save the country’s weakening economy.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 6.2%, putting the blue-chip index more than 20% above its recent low, a move that starts a new bull market and marks the shortest bear market in the index’s history. The S&P 500 gained 6.1%, and tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added 5.6%."

I'm aware of the lag, it's just one of my observations.

I don’t know if retail investors can move the market, but maybe that payday thing explains the up days on Fridays.

Don't get me started on them, especially BA. I work in aero manufacturing both civil and military (though to be fair, for BA I think we only make military....)

    :annoyed:

Not to mention the airlines, we also work for them too (contracts, we do MRO and OEM). I don't like to cast shade but there's one airline that came in, ripped us for an audit, turns out their got destroyed in that audit previously, wanted to spread the pain. They gave us several false findings that we outlined how it wasn't even a requirement to their own quality requirements. We weren't the only plant that had problems with them :p

I'm on the fence on this. They're in a bad spot for more than one reason, they didn't prepare for this (to be fair, nobody did), and they shouldn't see a collapse of an industry - however, there are some business practices that are now being called out for their bulls$%& which is fair.

Consumer demands - I'll be honest, I flew cattle class for a 4 hour flight with AAL, I had netflix on my phone and was a-okay. I could have been better, and I'm younger and only 5'10 - but they build around the top of the bell curve (see: me), so it was fine. As I get older, maybe that will change. But for now, whatever. Bring on the cattle class.

I like to see the gains and my retirement isn't in the negatives anymore, but I suspect dead cat. :( Maybe I can have the truck paid off soon though and I can partake in the next spikes :D

So is the general consensus 2 sell sell sell even if you've been in the market say 20 years and have around a mill well-diversified?

With over 20 years to go b4 retire still in higher risk reward and my wealth manager has clients in late 70 80 and even some 90 that still let it ride. Of course they are all over the 1 mill mark so at that point the compound interest makes up for losses pretty quick. Does look tempting to throw everything in Cds and be happy with min returns over negative but my guy says no plus the near 1% fee to guide my boat would make it a waste of tme.

on that note if you are say under half a mill maybe CD is for you ??? I don't know thats why I have an expert but find the speculation interesting.

Right now this feels more like a 9/11 moment than 2008.
Does anyone see a lot of defaults coming on all this cheap money? That'll turn it into 2008.

BTW I was on my way to get back in Mon. after pulling out last year. My stomach turned and I chickened out.

I pulled out just as I have in the past, when everyone was crowing. I miss the highs. I miss the ulcers too.

Well, I mean by always getting out before crashes, I miss having to go through the roils. I'm not smart, no pretension about that. I'm chicken but yes, I kind of always know how much I'm really worth.

I thought I might never do this again and that's ok. Ok if I do though, everybody can use a few more bucks.

Ganestop closing stores now permanently too.

I also feel like this will weed out some of the companies that were on the brink. Like Ganestop, for example. Their model is old and didn't change with the times. I'm thinking best buy will have a big rebirth into a new format too. To be honest I wouldn't have been caught off guard if gamestop announced closures before this whole thing. Adios, some things won't be missed.

Futures back down this morning. I think the downward trend will continue, maybe not as dramatic as before, but still think we're heading down for a while.

I knew what you meant. I too sometimes go past that point and realize worrying does nothing, act on logic and data, not emotion. Best and sometimes I swear worst advice is just invest a small portion of your savings. Others just said this, you know, keep 2-5 years of living expense completely safe, invest only XX% of your money, invest using the bucket method, etc. Too me this is the best way to stay conservative, but of course holds you back on the huge gains.

Did anyone buy the VIX before this whole thing started? Maybe someone did and they don't post here anymore because they're filthy rich and living on a sailboat.

Well I thought yesterday was Friday. Imagine my surprise this morning when the market is open. I don’t think I was the only one who thought yesterday was Friday though with this quarantine business.
Honestly I really expected the market to go down on Friday this week (and currently it is). I was surprised that it was going up yesterday when I thought it was Friday haha! Too much uncertainty over the weekend people want to cash out from this weeks gains.
