Trying to engage especially State Farm customers. Are your rates always going UP like mine? I don't get it.
My driving record has been spotless since I was 22-I'm 59. I have two vehicles and renter's so three policies and have been with State Farm since the late 80s.
When my Lexus was brand-new in '16 I paid $606 every 6 months. They now want $732 every 6 months and it's a 4 year old vehicle.
They say based upon "information I gave them" they put an average of 7000 miles a year to this period. Where'd they get that from? My Lexus is at 24,183 miles so that's an average of 6000 miles a year.
I called my agent about this and got the cold shoulder and hung-up on right after he claimed he'd "send a request in". Based upon my clean record, early payments constantly, and long-term loyalty, why am I being treated like shit?

Also, yes. My rates have been going up as well, while I continue to get older, have ZERO claims/accidents/tickets, my 2003 Taco continues to age and depreciate.
Last time I was in the State Farm office, there was someone else complaining loudly about it and I think the summary was "cost of business is going up".

I'd be finding a new agent/agency and getting some quotes from them. And then even if they could just match what I was paying currently, I'd tell the first guy to go do something impolite with himself.

I've not had that experience with State Farm. Had renters/homeowners, life and auto insurance since early 90's. I've only had minor rate adjustments (both increases and decreases).

Even with 2 auto claims (no fault - hit & run and a moose collision) in that time, they haven't used that as a reason to increase. My safe driver discount wasn't affected.

I'm guessing this varies state by state.

Switch to a different company. They do the same crap to us, I think they count on the average consumer being complacent and just paying whatever it says, and not noticing that it went up. We rotate through 2-3 different insurance companies, switching every year or two.

i went to state farm about 6 or 7 years ago after being with allstate for the previous 10 years - two vehicles, renters, and personal articles policies. allstate was jacking up my rates at least 15% every 6 months with no explanation. it got to a point that i was paying double the premium for my 99 taco over a 5 year span. all with no accidents, no tickets, no claims what so ever.
i went to state farm and knocked about 60% off the premiums. i told them what allstate had done and why i was switching. they were shocked and assured me that they wouldn't do the same. since then i've only had one increase in my rates and it was like a 5% difference.

How long have you been with your current insurance company? Anything over 4-5 years and your probably paying too much as they are most likely taking advantage of your loyalty. Do you have anyone in your family who was or is currently in the military? If so I would give USAA a call. They without question have the best rates and coverages. Either way I would stay away from the independent agent and do your own shopping around. No need to pay a middle man to do something easily done by picking up the phone and shopping around yourself. Keep your money in your pocket for cool things like the next mod on your list

My insurance went up over a nonmoving fix it ticket on a semi truck which was company owned. I tried to explain to them that that violation was not my responsibility or a reflection of my driving. Was also a bs ticket since the truck was only a year old and i was ticketed for something left off at the factory.
Ill stop bitching but an extra 200+ dollars a year for no reason sucks didnt even know they could see those tickets.

I haven't had issues with insurance rates going up, but I have certainly noticed larger companies (at least in my experience) tend to have the worst customer service at relatively close costs to smaller insurance companies. Definitely shop around. It's worth the time.
It's important for us to find a good company, considering the one who daily drives the taco is a cop magnet:anonymous:

Could be more people in your area are making claims. Mine dropped $100 last time I moved out of a city.

It's what we get for having a fed funds rate at 0%. So people need to start expecting this. If they can't maintain the desired reserves to back the policies they're going to look to the customer.

I had the same issue with State Farm. Was with them for about 9 years and rates over the last two years kept increasing twice a year. Finally checked other insurance rates and found GEICO really did save me money. Good luck!

Don't overlook the possibility that your state (I'm assuming CA) may have a high proportion of underinsured or uninsured drivers. Unfortunately, if your state has a high amount of those people, the people who do have insurance have to foot the bill.

Another reason rates are going up is because the average repair is also going WAY up.

With all the safety sensors in a modern vehicle, what used to be a minor fender bender is now multiple thousands to repair/replace.

$600 taillights, $2000 bumpers, $500 side mirrors are now the norm for all the blind spot monitoring, radar cruise control, etc.

Two years ago Amica skyrocketed on me out of the blue, citing my move from Houston to DFW as the reason why I owe $750 on insurance . I immediately dropped them and picked up Progressive for 350. Same coverage, same deductible. Every six months it rises slightly higher. Today I paid $460. I'll be dropping progressive in October.

Just the nature of the game I guess. Now I track this shit along with all my other expenses on a spreadsheet. Lets me know when it's time to shop for a new utility.
