Does this annoy the crap out of anyone else?. Has anyone figured out a way to prevent this from happening.

If it’s what I’m thinking there is a small button that either recirculates the air in the cab or allows fresh air from outside.

Your profile says you have 1st gen but posted this in 2nd gen. On an 03 you have to press the A/C button to turn on A/C the temp dial sets cabin air temp.

Yeah I know about the recirculate button. I’m saying when I want outside temp air I turn the dial all the way to cold. I but instead of getting outside temp, the a/c button lights up and the compressor kicks on. Now I gotta move the dial back a bit and turn the a/c button off.

My 2015 does this as well.. annoys the crap outta me. The temp dial has a slight detent that acts as a compressor switch in addition to the compressor switch. An engineering solution to a problem that didn't exist. Don't turn the knob all the way is the only solution.

Don’t turn it all the way to the left. You’re turning it to max cold which turns on the AC.

Have you read the owner’s manual?

Just turn it to one click above max cold and it won't turn on.

Perfectly horizontal is full 'cold' without AC. One more click past horizontal is the Max AC function or something like that. Makes my OCD happy to keep the knob horizontal, so its not really a big deal

If it really bothers you that much, Im sure you could take the HVAC controls out and find a way to disable that last contact

You could also just put it on max A/C and then manually turn off the A/C by pressing the button while your hand is in that area.

I need to double check, but if the knob is full left on the detent I think the AC compressor will not shut off. You need to move it off the detent rotating slightly to the right.

Exactly, which is the “problem” I am trying to “fix”. It’s annoying, It turns a 1 step process into 4 steps. How do you know you’ve turned the dial all the way unless it hits the stopper, which activated the A/C, which then requires moving the dial back AND pressing the A/C button to turn off the A/C.

EXACTLY. It turns on max cold which turns on the a/c and the recirculating system.
Many vehicles are set up this way.
Just stop before the click at the lowest setting.

Report back, I thought it will turn off if you manually press the A/C button no matter what position the temp knob is in.

None of the fords I drive for work are set up this way, nor are any of my older toyota trucks. My girlfriends Nissan, my parents Acura and VW don’t do this. I’ve never seen another vehicle that did.... and as far as I can tell, for a good reason.
