If you just got the truck, use it as is for a while. Get a decent set of tires and see what limitations the truck has for your use. Most people don’t realize how capable they are from the factory. From there, slowly upgrade and chop parts off as needed!

It is my DD for now, but I typically spend weekends camping/fishing/backpacking, so using it at a launchpad for adventures too. It came with the tube steps, which I will probably leave on there until I get a better feel for the vehicle. Main thing I am looking at is adding a hard topper and figuring out if I want to sleep in the back or utilize the RTT for that.

Agree with the idea of driving it first. I was on stock tires with just sliders for a bit of time, did have a mild lift though. Was amazed at what a set of tires did though.

For camping, there's alot of good info on TW about building out shells. You can toss a sleeping pad back there or go full mach-chicken and build it with sliding everything.

Thanks for the reply! That's sort of the plan for now. Get comfortable with the truck and see what it is capable of. Seems to be pretty decked out from the factory, which will probably suffice for most of my OR needs at this point. Not planning on doing anything crazy with it quite yet, but I'd rather be able to take the road less traveled while out adventuring!

Lots of threads about both here. Personally I'd lean towards the RTT if it's a DD so you can easily convert it from "grocery run" status to "weekend warrior". But then I'm also biased against toppers, so don't listen to me.

Quit speaking sense. Also make sure they're turned on no matter where you're going, people love it.

My current simple setup is a little different than shown here, but still about the same. ARE MX cap, sliding windoors, carpet interior. Sleeping platform can be single or double, and can be removed by 1 person in 1 minute to utilize it as a truck bed. Materials in tupperware containers under platform. This is considered minimalist in the scheme of camp shell setups.

An LED bar is not out of the question, but maybe in a year or two.

Any disc golfers in this thread?

Slick! I would ideally build something out similar to this, should I go the topper route. Could always toss the RTT on top and just pack gear in the bed, too, even though it would sit pretty high on an above-cab topper.

I went with a super simple sleeping setup in mine. 2 2x6s, a sheet of plywood and some carpet. Cost about $50.

    Lifted, Armored, needs more lights.
Well, I think most will tell you those Tube steps will self remove on most trails here and then be worth nothing. Next if it's your daily driver, I would get some armor (Sliders and Belly). They don't call these the rocky mountains for their sand content.

I wouldn't put a rtt above your roof line simply because they kill mpg. I personally lowered my bed rack (my rtt stays on all summer) so when my rtt is on, it's the same height as my roof rack.

Thought I had a pic with the rtt on but you get the idea. Bed rack is 3in shorter than roofline.

100% agree. In some cases those tube steps will cause damage you would have otherwise avoided if removed.
