2006 Access cab stock model. I have the rear leaf/bilstein shocks (x4) TSB upgrade and would like to increase the load capacity somewhat more. I load up almost daily with carpentry tools/materials and given the rough rural roads it still ocassionally bottoms out. I'd rather have a stiffer ride and not prematurely sag out the springs given this truck will hopefully last me a good long time.

Any suggestions or concerns about this out there?

    Thanks!

get an aal for the rear, or a set of helper springs. either one should help with your load capacity and not sag the springs.

aal=add a leaf.......basically another leaf that you add to your leaf pack to make it stronger, and it will also left the rear just a bit.

Don't forget that the load limit is not based solely on the suspension. You need to consider transmisison capabilities, braking, and axel and frame weight bearing at a minimum...and I'm sure there are things I've missed..

I went to a car mechanic one time and asked how much they would charge to put on a helper spring, and they refused to do the work. They said it affects so many other parts of the car it's not worth doing it, better to buy a bigger truck.

If you want to stick with a Taco, how about buying a trailer? Then you can leave it loaded with all the stuff. In AZ there are masses of contractor's trailers for sale - I'm sure this is the case in most parts. All the alternative (dare I mention) is to ditch the Taco and buy a bigger truck.

I guess it's time to save up for a contractors trailer; lockable covered trailer to keep my tools etc. in and be safe to leave on work site as necessary. I have a small open homemade trailer but between rain and snow I have to empty daily of vulnerable tools. I have just ordered a raised profile Leer cap with 2 side windoors and a rack - that'll at least beat the hell out of the snapon tonneau I fought with over the last year every time it rained or snowed - and it gets absolutely horrible to close when the temp drops in our Manitoba winter. Can be -30f in the morning and the damn thing shrinks...:mad:

THANKS again for info as I was uncertain about extra load handling issues and advisability of pushing GVW too far. And that V6 has tons of trailer pulling power :D.

    This forum rocks!

I'm sure that the airbag coil helper system that I looked at was around $1000 to buy (instal was extra). I just looked at the local Craigslist and there are used 10' x 6' enclosed trailers starting at $1200. If you buy one of those, it'll still be worth something in a few years. A used suspension system won't (and it may even put a prospective buyer off buying your truck, if he knows it's been abused).

And it'll give you some shelter out of the elements when you're trying to ogranize your tools/materials. It's a no-brainer!
