Looking for some advice and insight. Looking to upgrade my wheels and tires game. Question is, will my truck fit 33s or 285/70/17?

Truck has 3 inch lift all around. Bilstein 5100s, with 2888 coils in front, camburgs ucas and ome heavy duty leaf springs in the rear.

Will i need body mount chop if i go with 33s?

    Most people call 285/70/17's a 33.

You will likely need body mount chop.

There are so many threads about this subject, and it is a bit controversial. I have 285/75 r16 and ended up buying after market UCA, doing a CMC w/pinch weld cut and fold, plastic trimming and still have rubbing when getting getting the suspension at full articulation. If you use the search bar, you’ll have hours of reading on opinions here

^^ same as above: You will likely need the CMC plus the pinch weld cut and inner plastic fender trimming (easy to mold back with a heat gun). Even if you can "fit" 33's without the CMC/trimming, it will almost certainly rub at full lock or when suspension flexed off road and drive you nuts like it did to me. Besides once you drive around on 33's, 35's will probably be on your list of upgrades.

I'm running 20x12 with 285/55R20 which are just under 33" and have no rubbing what so ever. I have the CMC, pinch weld cut + lots of inner well plastic trimming. IMO you should just do the CMC and trimming.

I have a 3" lift as well, the issue I believe comes down to the rims and their off-set. I have the 17" TRD 4-Runner rims with BFG K02's on 285/70/17 and there is no rubbing at all no CMC or anything like that.

Ps 88 rotors on YT has a ton of vids on similar setup's

What's your lift? Did you find the TRD 4Runner rims online or at the dealership?

The rims you can get online; that's what I did...the lift is a block/spacer setup from toytech

2nded with this. Had the same setup before with the 4runner rims +4 offset i believe , no rubbing and no CMC needed. Moved to a -38 offset and absolutely needed to do a CMC

I love the look of 285/75/17 on mine but yeah it rubbed even after CMC and pinch weld. I’m finally sorted after CMC, pinch weld modification, and cutting out some of the front fender well plastics. Good alignment and aftermarket UCA is key (I have SPC UCAs). Good luck!

It seems 8” wide wheels with 0 offset/4.5 backspace is the sweet spot. I have tall skinnies but they measure big at 33.4x10.4 and I’ve rubbed the plastic fender flare lip once or twice flexing with a 260 lb passenger. Aside from that, zero rub.

A good alignment is crucial too.

Can anyone explain why a 0 offset is considered 4.5 backspacing on a 8 inch rim? I see this and it doesn’t make sense to me. 0 offset should mean the face of the rim is in the middle. So the backspacing should be 4 inches?

my guess is that the mounting surface in the center of the wheel is 1/2” thick and stands off the center line of 4”.

My understanding is that the mounting face is the reference plane for both offset and backspacing.
    Sorry, off topic I know.

I will say this, they won't fit on their own. There will be some love needed to make them fit fully without rubbing.

For every person that said their tires fit without rubbing at all, arent telling the whole truth or there is another member with the same setup who is rubbing.
