...^^^... An excellent way to deal with shoplifters and thieves without getting a scratch ... :D

Every mall cop should have a bull whip ... :)

I still prefer the pistol over bull whip method, as demonstrated in Indiana Jones.

    Simple
    Easy
    Effective

The cab held up pretty well though. It looks like an escape pod.

If he was going down hill and his brakes gave out would be the only acceptable reason but was probably just an asshole driver.

Road is flat around there, West of Telluride on the way toward Gateway and Moab. Often see fast cars and motos out that way after the snow is gone and before the motorhomes show up in the Summer.

Something like that. I've driven a lot of those high roads in Colorado. My main focus was not crapping my pants.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
But it sounded like he will live... Might well have the truck to thank for that.

This was a loonnnggg time ago, cause I'm old as fuck. Cornered rats (shop lifters) are dangerous. My boss was a nice, church going, family man and pharmacist, not a trained fighter. The mall cop was your completely stereotypical mall cop. You know the type, they think they're tougher than they really are. I got the job of cleaning up the mess made by the fight. I found 4 or 5 pair of Levis and that was it. It is stupid to risk an emergency room visit, tweaked shoulder, black eye, bloody scratches contaminated with God knows what, and losing the services of the pharmacist for the rest of the day for $200 (current value) worth of pants. Oh, and remember $200 is the retail price, JC Penny is into them maybe $125.

The reason stores have policies against stopping shoplifters by force is a simple economic one, capitalism if you must name it. It is more cost effective to have some theft than pay for the consequences of a mistake by an employee. That's not saying stores don't have loss prevention efforts in place, I found this interesting link too: https://soapboxie.com/government/5-Things-You-Didnt-Know-About-Shoplifting

My daughter worked retail clothing for a while. They would find cut off "security" tags in the dressing rooms a few times a week. They knew who some of the thieves were, but store policy was hands off. The perps knew damn well nothing was going to be done to them and just righteously walked in with shopping bags ,and out with stolen merchandise.

It also depends on the value of the store's goods. I worked mall retail in college at a jewelry store. We sold everything from cheap faux crap to unset diamonds worth the same as a new Corvette. There were all kinds of security rules, like taking a full inventory every two hours, two employees on the floor at all times (to keep each other honest), only one ring out at a time, no unmounted cubic zircon stones out at the same time as diamonds, and every sale was documented by the manager.

As far as I know nothing was ever stolen, but it would be hard to justify that level of effort for anything else.

The Sheriff's Office estimate may have been off by 40 mph for all we know, probably by eyewitness reports and unreliable evidence such as tire skid marks. It takes a lot of effort to keep a 2nd gen at 100 mph on a straight level road, since the truck's top speed is only 108 mph as tested by Car and Driver, and that's with the stock narrow 245 Dunlops.
