Concealed Carry in Taco [and elsewhere]

Not at all what I meant. I have my share of firearms including my HK .40 next to my bed. I just wasnt sure of the need in your truck or on you.

So on the waistband, nothing is going to be convenient to draw while sitting in the truck, especially not while wearing a seat belt. I find my outside the waistband to be a little more comfortable than the inside the waistband, but the otwb is slightly harder to conceal with. (and when you unbuckle your belt to take a piss, the holster likes to sag cause of stupid gravity).
You could put the gun in the console when sitting in the truck, but then you're forced to holster/unholster every time you enter/exit the vehicle. (unless it's a locked sotrage container, which is a law in MA). Also in MA - holster/unholster out in public isn't an option, I don't want to go to jail.
The best holster I've found for driving is a shoulder harness. Has it's pluses and minuses for concealing - so just go buy a cheap one off Amazon. For 15 bucks you'll know whether or not you like it. I can wear a button up shirt or a jacket unzipped/unbuttoned and still easily conceal, plus I can easily draw while sitting in my truck.
General advice for concealing - go buy a cheap version of each type of holster: itwb, otwb, ankle, & shoulder harness. It's worth the investment to learn your own preferences. Most you can find for < 10 bucks, amazon is your friend.
And get some snap-caps. I don't want you to shoot yourself when practicing with a holster.

 

This is a great set up, I've never thought of anchoring the holster like that. Usually it's just sitting in my console on it's side, and your set up would definitely save me some space!

 

You sold me right there. this is going to sound lame, but what kind of legal trouble can you get in for carrying in your vehicle in CA

I just toss my pistol in my glovebox where it stays day and night.

I don't worry about it getting stolen because a) it was only $250 b) in WA State you can purchase a pistol in 20min (if you have permit).

It's within arms reach and the lever is easier (and quicker) to pop open and grab than it is to open center console and grab - at least in my opinion.

Plus it has the added bonus of making things interesting when you get pulled over:

"License and registration."
"Officer, just so you know I have a loaded firearm in my glovebox."

 

My crossbreed holster work great IWB at the 4 to 5 'oclock.

I haven't found a good holster/quik clip that'll go into the center console yet...but I'm also thinking about getting a Console vault for those inconvenient times that you can't take it along (like the other day at the mall or when i do stuff for work off base.)

My SIG P250 also fits between the seat and the center console pretty well.

All of those. A gun on my nightstand or on a safe when someone near me gets shot is no good. I'm not going to give up my power to make decisions to someone else.

 

Not going to get into why I carry every day but I have my gun permit for Indiana which allows us to carry open or concealed. I choose to conceal carry about 90% of the time. I also have a Glock 19 that I carry most of the time in a BladeTech IWB holster. Since I have a bench seat, the IWB doesn't bother me. The only interior mod I have made is keeping loaded magazines in various places in the Tacoma. I would love to secure a long gun behind the seat, and when I get some extra money, I am going to invest in a truck gun.

Great to hear your response! I don't want to start any arguments but it seems like everytime this topic comes up most replies from Canada are negative comments about "us crazy gun-toting Americans". I knew someone out there had to envy our 2nd Amendment!!

To the OP, you might check out Sure Set Holster mounts (sshmi.com). I've found that having it on me either means I can't get to it quickly, it is uncomfortable, or both. The sure set would allow you to simply transfer the firearm from your holster to the one in the car. Granted this might mean some contortions in the car to be able to do it safely and unseen or some other method to get in out of and in to the holster outside of the vehicle while still being inside the law.
