My Tacoma is not 2 months old and this is my second tonneau cover... First one cracked about 4 inches long along the back and today I noticed this crack. I hardly ever open the damn thing! Thankfully I bought it with the truck so it's covered under the truck warranty but are they junk?? Anyone else with similar issues? After this virus thing I'll go back to the dealership to have it replaced again but would I be better to get my money back and buy a different one after market?

Is this a chip in the paint? looks like something may have hit your bed/tonneau. Or it could just be a glare.

It almost looks like something chewed on it. It doesn't look like it "broke" off. You don't keep food back there... do ya?

Same here since 2016. Hit your cover with some 303 Protectant. Will bring color back while protecting it.

Could it be the freezing Canadian temperatures making the cover brittle?

Shouldn't be an issue. Wasn't last time when they saw it. Winter is just getting done here so I haven't even used the darn thing yet! Should be tougher me thinks....

I'm thinking the same way. Mind you this winter has not been super cold compared to what we can get... So dunno... I'll hear what they have to say and report back once I can get in there. Everything is closed for a few weeks now...

The Texas heat made my interior grab handles sticky so the cold might actually be making your cover brittle

The cracked part is in the 2nd joint. I would think if someone tried to break into it they'd try at the rear no? But it's not getting slammed, just me using it (no careless kids or teenagers) and I'm pretty careful with it...

I'd be curious to see if the plastic feels particularly brittle. I wouldn't recommend you do this, but maybe encourage the dealer to see if more will break off with moderate effort. It's already fucked... so see how much effort it takes to break more off. If it's truly a flawed part, it may disintegrate with little to no effort.

Did that cover come on your truck from the factory?

...and no food kept in there so not the work of rodents (unless they like plastic just for the hell of it)... Both times it was damage I didn't notice at first. This I noticed today because I was working around the box area installing the tailgate theft deterrent bar...

Well I bought it when I negotiated the truck so not from factory but dealer installed. I remember telling the salesman I could find accessories cheaper online or elsewhere and he recommended I buy this part as Toyota dealer installed accessories are covered under the vehicle warranty and he said if anything would go wrong with an accessory it would be this one....
