I live in Reno, very dusty and the (paved) roads constantly have sand on them. Windshield get covered in micro-pits so badly that after a few months a new windshield is almost impossible to see through when driving into the sun. I had a 2007 Tundra with a bug deflector that had quite a lip on the edge, which kept the windshield like new. Now every deflector I see for my Tacoma has no lip at all. How does this protect the windshield? Does anyone know of a deflector that has a lip and works? Not worried about bug, just the constant sand-blasting!!!

No deflector keeps things like bugs, sand off the windshield. The difference between your Tacoma and the Tundra is the windshield angle. The Tacoma is much steeper angle and will naturally get more windshield strikes than, say, a Corvette. Good luck.

Weathertech and AVS ( 2 options) have highly rated ones. I have been debating getting one myself. I had one on my 2001 Tacoma and it made a big difference. Check out their websites. Let me know what you think. It appears that AVS bugdeflector 2 is a bit more aggressive with upsweep for more prevention.

Works ok. If you drive in heavy bug infested areas, nothing is gonna help.

I have the avs bug defector and I can say it seems to be working better to prevent windshield chips.

They keep paint chips off the front of your hood from the contact angle with all the gravel and bug splatter. Get the windshield spray with the bug removal degreaser stuff, it works amazing unless you let the splat bake in the sun first.

That old style actually works, nowadays they’re hood protectors not bug deflectors !

That thing is straight fugly! But you know you’d be rocking it if you had a blue bug shield and a mullet in the 80’s!

I installed a weathertech, and I like the way it looks. Will see if it helps. If I get tired of it or decide I don’t like it, I can always take it off!

OP was asking about bug deflectors, not air breaks. LOL
