Gents, been in Okinawa for three years and I’m in Virginia looking at trucks. I’m between a 19 ranger with 0% financing for the life of the loan and a 20 Taco that has a higher interest rate and monthly payment. FWIW it’s a lariat fx4 and the taco is a trd off-road manual because I had an auto before and won’t make that mistake again. Please give me your reasons why I shouldn’t go to Ford. It seems like such a better truck after driving it 700 miles from Atlanta to Virginia (thanks Enterprise)

If it seems like a better truck to you then get it. The biggest reason I got my Tacoma over the others is reliability and resale value, If those aren’t as important to you get the Ford. I haven’t heard anything terrible about their reliability. Obviously this forum will be biased towards the taco, its a great truck. But you’re the one who’s going to pay for it, who cares what anyone else thinks?

You are going to be scolded for using the word “help” in the title. “Help” is reserved more for someone with requests For assistance due to “calamities”. Suggest using something like the word “information”.

Three years in Okinawa? Are you sure you're driving on the right side of the road? ;) BTW, did a six-month deployment there back in the mid-80s. Yes, I'm old.

Thanks for the “help”. Good points from all. Reliability and resale are huge to me. Do you think the extended warranty and prepaid maintenance from Toyota are worth it? I think if I skip on those my monthly payment is going to drop down to where I’m more comfortable.

That's more of a personal question but to me, personally...I skip that stuff to keep the cost down. I figure those added costs are all about the dealer making money beyond the sale price of the vehicle.

Others may prefer to spend the money up-front and enjoy the worry-free motoring.

If reliability and resale are your #1 priority, you go with Taco. If you only keep your vehicles a few years, go with whatever you enjoy more.

Don’t get pre-paid maintenance for sure(first two years are included), and the warranty... it depends on the price. You can shop around at different Toyota dealers and you can buy it before your 3 year/36,000 are up. I’ve seen people get a 8 year/100,000 warranty for $1,200. That’s up to you, some people like the piece of mind. Just make sure it’s Toyota’s warranty, not some third party.

Please change the name of this thread. We try to save “help” for please actually stuck somewhere. But to your point I love my tacoma if you want a road princess ranger is fine if you want an off-road King it’s hard to beat Toyota. Depends on your personal life.

Of course on a Tacoma forum you will get a recommendation of a Tacoma. Go to the Ranger forum and they will recommend the Ranger. Good luck in your research.

Sorry, changed title. Thanks for the inputs. It’s good to be around like minded Tacoma people again. I’m going to have the dealer drop all the extended warranty and maintenance off to make this truck more enjoyable. I’ll post pics soon, 2020 double cab TRD Off-road in cement.

I have been partial to Ford, worked in a Ford shop but the new Ranger looks horrible. Also it's a new truck so let them work out the grimlins.

Same here I bought my tacoma for the long haul. If I was buying something to trade in every few years I would of considered other things(maybe) but I love my truck and I feel it’s a vehicle I will have for many many years to come!

This 100%. I don't care if you are keeping the truck for 1 year or 10 years, if you want reliability and resale, you stay away from the Ford. When you drive it off the lot, you'll lose half it's value. There are many guys on here that are able to sell their Toyotas after a year or two and not be upside down...usually they're flipping in to a newer Toyota.

You posted this on a Tacoma enthusiast's forum.

I'll give you three guesses what the consensus will be...
