Hey everyone, I'm new to Tacoma World and in need of your help!

I just bought a used white 2014 Tacoma with only 35K miles and after washing it today decided I'd clean up some of the window trim. I taped off the paint with painters tape and when I went to peel the tape off all the paint came with it. Is this my mistake by using painters tape or is the paint compromised from the original owner?

I had my body shop inspect the car before purchasing and there was no after market paint work done that would have caused peeling. I have touch up paint and dont mind fixing it up, but am now worried that even with lots of care the paint on the truck wont last me the 8-10 years I planned on keeping it. Thinking about trying to sell before I invest more money into it, what are your thoughts? Has this happened to anyone?

Picture attached for reference. Please excuse my quarantine hair! Haha

That's definitely not normal for a 2014, probably was in an accident

Can I fulfill this recall if I'm not the original owner though?

You would need to check if your vehicle falls within the recall. I don’t see why it wouldn’t if your vehicle met the criteria.

Looks like it covers every vehicle with the same paint color code as mine, other than the Tacoma :(

What did you clean the trim with? Did you tape this off and work on it in the sun?

It would be in your favor to at least take it in and let the dealer refuse it then complain to Toyota in an official format. That is how to start the ball rolling to get it placed on the list.

That would be Toyota’s shitty white paint. Unfortunately they like to use single stage paints, which don’t stand up to the suns UV’s like a base clear paint job does. Especially in warmer, drier climates. All the manufacturers lately are getting into paint trouble. They are all cutting corners to save costs and are now paying to repaint a ton of vehicles.
