    What light always on?
I did the grey wire mod on my ‘03 4x4 and had no lights stay on.

Wondered about the locker light being on. On the first page, that was the case. I figured someone has since corrected.

This one. Maybe I misread and it was actually was supposed to be engaged and my brain assumed otherwise.

Correct, he was just showing how the locker can now be engaged without the vehicle being in 4x4
It did trip me up also when I read it.

Also I want to point out that one reason I did the grey wire mod is my pin 8 was giving 12V even when in 4-LO. It was never grounding and thus was preventing the actuator from attempting to lock.

This may be a dumb question but will this work on a 98 Tacoma with a elocker? I only seem do see the early 2000 model years posting on having done this.
    Thanks

Being this is in First Gen forum, and a '98 is a First Gen Tacoma, I think your odds are pretty good.

That's kinda what I thought but some things are different, like the rear springs between the 96-97 compared to the 98 and later models.
I didn't want to let out any of that magic white smoke that makes everything work.

Well, let's see if anyone has anything more to add. I am not a Toyota mechanic or have done the mod on my 2001... I had no need for a locked rear in anything other than low range 4WD. I used it often, however.

Hoping to hear of someone with a 98 that has done this or knows for sure. Most of my wheeling will probably not require 4 wheel drive if I have a locker so for me it seemed a good option.
Anyone out there have a definitive answer?

My '99 has the grey wire mod done. Was like that when I bought it. Rear locker works in 2wd just fine.

is there only one 4wd ecu, or two? Toyota’s diagram shows the one under the fuse under the dash like this one, and also shows one above the engine ecu behind the bottom of the center dash area. I looked in both places and I appear to have the plugs for both. I’m doing a complete oem trd axle swap and I’m tryin to figure out which module I need to get and then once I get it I will do the grey wire mod also.

I finally did this today. My locker was not working (blinking light). After doing the mod my locker light still blinked, 2 separate issues. I unplugged the wiring harness at he locker and cleaned the contacts and bingo! Locker is working. I am a happy camper and can't wait to try it out. The is smooth and quiet with just a small acknowledgement of engaging. Thanks for this thread and all who contributed!

is this locker affected if the blinkers relay is changed for one that can handle LED bulbs? ...or are two separate wirings? I'm trying to figure out why the rr diff locker lights blinks without engaging.
