Good idea, I will try if that can be removed along with other unsolicited options to reduce the price.

Are you working with only one dealer? You have no leverage. It can be difficult depending on your location but getting 4 - 5 dealers competing against one another will get you a better deal. Useless you can show a dealer a better deal (offer sheet, email, etc.) they have no real incentive to move lower (unless of course they can get you to sign a deal "right now" with a small token reduction).

The other thing the OP should be aware of is that MSRP doesn't include dealer add on's, like paint undercarriage protection, spray on bed liners, rust proofing etc. that dealers will add in to boost profit, big time. Once you finalize a price there will also be a Doc fee tacked on (again not included in MSRP) that will add back in 1 - 2% of MSRP depending on the dealer - anywhere from a couple hundred bucks to $600+. This is ensures some additional profit margin on a skinny deal and is usually non-negotiable.

Was just offered $40,000 including tax and fees, out the door for a 2020 TRD pro manual. A week ago I would have jumped at that but we decided to buy my wife and new car after they said no to that deal a week ago. Ugh. was a white manual; nice truck
I think the dealers are getting desperate
Would give me $3k for my very old truck and had to finance through them. Might still do it but don’t think I want to buy to vehicles in this economy and it would stretch the finances.

40k otd for a pro is a great deal. Normally I would say don't buy right now because all my "insider sources" say it will get a lot uglier but if your finances are rock solid, I say go for it. That's a steal and than some

Sounds like that’s factoring your $3k trade so more like $43k, but yes still sounds like a decent deal.

no, they said it would be $37k after trade

I could sell the old truck for around $5k but it would be a hassle

Gotcha. Ya then that’s a once in a lifetime deal. Never seen a current year pro go for that big of a discount. That’s only $800 more than what I paid for my loaded TRD OR with a $44.8k msrp before TTL. I would have totally snagged the pro instead if I was presented with that deal though I would have been skeptical were they are trying to make the money elsewhere cause that is way below invoice and eating into holdback.

Yeah, the dealer even told me it was into holdback. I think they’re going to sell the trade for a lot more if I do the deal.

I started looking around, and I know this sounds bad on this site, but you can get a fully loaded Ram for almost $20k off at certain dealerships now. As much as I like the Tacoma, the Hemi engine is really nice and I could get much more rear legroom for about $5-10k more. I’m torn as to what to do. I’m probably an idiot for not jumping on this deal. I’ve made so many poor car decisions in the past that I’m so worried I’ll make another.

There is a reason the Ram is 20K off and see how much it's worth in 5 years not even counting mechanical issues .

Question though, can i account for the 10%+ off MSRP if I’m ordering my truck custom made to my likings?

    Thank you

I've never been able to not negotiate 10% off MSRP on any of my new Tacomas, but its not guaranteed it'll be between you and the dealer. Most that allocate or "order" a truck just negotiate $100-500 over invoice or something like that. Keep in mind the dealer usually has I wanna say about $1000 of dealer holdback from Toyota on Tacomas but most wont budge on that. And just a side note you don't custom build a truck with Toyota. What will happen is your region will see if there is an allocation already for the particular configuration of your truck and snag the allocation, if its not a usual allocation build for that region than they will do a special allocation request.

That’s the Covid-19 deal of the year!!! I think a manual Pro has an MSRP of around $44k.

Yeah, it’s at MSRP for over $45k but they have it advertised for something like $43,500.

If you have a stable income stream I would say jump on it. That’s an insanely low selling price.

    A few.
Dealer Holdback on Toyotas is 2% of the base MSRP before options. It varies for each manufacturer.

Ya I couldn't remember thanks, guess my $2k number was extreme. Point was most dealers will show you the door if you try eating into that as well and that it exists, most people are fixated on invoice.

Here's an update. I spent the morning emailing about 5 dealers and received a quote for a great price on similarly specced truck that was about 100 miles away. I emailed the quote to the dealership I visited yesterday and they matched it! I'll be picking it up on Monday!

Big thanks to everyone in this thread. I'm happy to get a great truck at a great price.

Cement DCSB OR 4x4 AT w/ trd premium, tech, led headlights and all weather mats
    MSRP $43,873
    Rebate $1,500
    Discount $4,223
    Total $38,150 (13% off)
