OK so I was super skeptical about how this whole thing would work:
1st Gen Tacoma 03 with H4s and OEM harness.
Spoke in length to TRS support and sent photos of the housing and then emailed me exact what I needed.
There is a harness that plugs directly into the 1st Gen headlight bulb connector and that signals the main harness to turn on.
The directions are somewhat generic but if you lay everything out, its basically plug and play.

One thing you might want to do it confirm the size of the projector and the shroud that you selecting.
You could easily select from the TRS website anything you thought might fit.
A 1st Gen would be smaller, where as a 2nd Gen has a much larger headlight housing.

These have two halo:
The inner one is white and square.
The outer one is blue and fluroscent tube.


You can see the opening is for HID and I hadn't ever seen the bulb for the HID. These headlights were given to me by @busmup808 (thanks Dain!)

 

The bulb holders for an extra 15.00 are well worth it.

yep, got those as they had no clue about the metal retaining clips until I searched their entire website and found them and showed them where they were on the website and order 3 @ $5/each...

 

TW global conscience:

After polishing the outside of the lens, do you suggest a clear coat of wax or something else?
Do you block all the vent holes?

might not be a good idea applying a clear coat as the Tacoma lenses are plastic. When I did the headlights on my ML I use what came in the kit and it worked well and lasted a good while.

I know these posts are about 3wks old now but I wanted to some clarify for anyone else that might read this later.
Our STOCK headlight bulb is an H4 bulb, therefore anyone wanting to do a conversion would need to buy an H4 harness. That ensures there will be male H4 plug built into the harness.
When buying the projectors and bulbs, you need to make sure they match. If you buy an H1 projector, you need an H1 bulb. If you buy a D2S projector, you need a D2S bulb, and so on...
The different model HID bulbs have different style connectors just like halogen bulbs do.

 

It was a couple years ago, but yeah I got them working.
Got all the harness/ballast/anti flicker/etc from the retrofit source.
The hardest thing to source was the wire that kept the bulb in the housing.

Looks great! I’m working on mine right now and waiting for the h1 bulbs and ballast. Quick question: where did you find an h4 male/h1 female adapter?

 

You buy a wiring harness that already has it.
