    nope. insurance companies pull from
two main report sources, one of them being the mvr. “open container” is a non moving violation that will show up in one’s mvr report. there are probably more like this as well.

Let me be more precise. I called around to 6 or 7 insurance companies a few years ago to make sure I was getting the best deal. I had a 4-year-old equipment violation on my record. Geico was the only company that used that ticket in my rate quote.

This is what we did. We’d been loyal customers for several years, they raised their rates. We understood why. But shopped around and got a lower rate any way at another company.

I was always given the “it’s the other drivers in your area causing the rates to go up as a whole”. My response was that they should charge them extra for being less responsible and not me. Why am I having to pay for others being terrible drivers?

Gees your links are eye-opening thanks! Even though they don't list Lexus you're right-my $1464 a year lines up with many non-luxury SUVs in those lists. I guess the multiple discounts they already gave me seem to have made my premium much lower. After seeing this maybe I shouldn't be bitching. Nevertheless, I'm going to wait and see what my agent's "request" brings forth.
And thanks for the further replies here everyone:)

Corporate murica don't give two fucks about loyalty to their customers or employees. If they can raise the rates, and you keep paying, all the better, cause profits. It is your job to shop around every single time they raise the rates. Then call your current agent and give them a chance to beat the lowest price. If they can't/won't do that, move your business.

Geico is the one who screwed me with the nonmoving violation on a vehicle i dont own rate increase. I moved all my other vehicles to AAA and saved a significsnt amount. I am hesitant to switch my taco since i have full coverage and some rock damage i have decided if i want to turn in to them.

maybe not. insurance companies don’t always pull reports when you’re doing a quote. sometimes they’ll ask you up front and see if you’re being honest. then they’ll pull reports later. so odds are, the other companies we’re using your four year old infraction against you in some way.

chargeability period for most violations is 35/36 months. but companies can go back 60 months for discount purposes.

also certain drivers are driving in our country with no car insurance when they cause an accident they are free to leave without paying the victims compensation therefore you have to use your insurance to repair your vehicle which will also raise everyones rates

So my experience with USAA, my renewal had my mileage at 8,000 miles a year - go figure the truck had 4,000 after 18 months - they dropped the rate by a lot. Moved from 3 miles north of the border, where in a 3 month period within 3 miles of us 600 vehicles were stolen and 800 broken into, to a rural area in the eastern sierra's my rate dropped again. So location and mileage saved $175 on a 6 month premium, combine with home insurance (in a wild fire zone) dropped it another $15.

always keep your insurance company updated with any changes - marital status, highest level of education, occupation, length of vehicle ownership, home owner, and in ca mileage.

You really can't beat USAA for low rates, higher coverages and awesome customer service. You'll never go back to Farmers, State Farm, Geico, All State or any of the other rip off insurance companies with garbage customer service. Unfortunately and probably for good reason they do not cover motorcycles so I'm stuck with Progressive at $75 a year but I guess I can't complain about that too much

Nah. I’ve had USAA all along, and after the conversation with Geico I asked them about it. They don’t use equipment violations for rating purposes. I asked the other 2 or 3 companies I talked to after Geico’s quote about it, they said the same.
