Early withdrawal penalty waived up to 100k. Wonder if this will have any negative impacts on the market....

Hmmm? I'm 53, so the 6 years to 59.5 is a number I worry about.

    Early retirement is planned.

We can live comfortably on 36k/yr. The liquidity I have present would make 59.5 a stretch.

Waving that early withdrawal penalty, kind of demands some serious thinking.

I am a very firm believer in "this too shall pass"

Six years? BUY like a maniac (OK buy good companies, or funds) the next double bummer day............then just don't look back.

I just threw $1000 at Vanguard's VTI ETF. Figured it's a small enough amount where I won't miss having it. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

The only other investment I have is a Roth IRA in a target date mutual fund. I put $230 per pay into that to hit the $6k limit per year and kept contributing as usual since all this went down. I am 28, so I have plenty of time for it to turn around. Might as well keep buying shares while they are cheap.

smart. Only reason I don’t do the Roth investment per pay is events like this. Everything invested in Roth for 2019 could be invested now for less, so you get more shares for your 6000. But it could go the other way also, so the set it and forget it method works well for most people.

dollar cost averaging, or DCA, basically says doesn’t matter what the market is doing now, put 200/day or week or whatever. In the end, years from now, it’ll all be in the green and it’s better to be in the market than try to time the market.

also I think he meant 200~ per week. Per day is like 75k/yr. 200 per week is about 10k still. Unless he really is putting in 200 per day until he meets the 6.5k limit.

I direct deposit $230 per paycheck and have it auto invest the next day. I am paid bi-weekly so 230 x 26 = 5980 per year. Closest I could get to 6000 with an even number.

I read it as 230 per day not per pay

    An interest free loan...
I don't think I have any intention of doing this but really, the only penalty would be missed gains (which may be significant).
My curiosity lies more along the lines of; will enough people do this that it takes enough money out of the market to affect it?

    Doubt it.

Interest free is nice, I'd consider the terms and pay off the truck instead, but then I'd have to look at the potential gains/losses by doing so, so probably won't.

I could see it doing anything. Up or down, it should probably just hover around where it sits for a bit, but who knows. It’s been pretty crazy.

could always do 500 a month. I have mine set to deduct 500 every month. That gets me to 6k a year.
