Totally fine. The only time I would have any reservations about that kind of setup is if you wheel your truck hard.

 

do you have more pictures of how you mounted the skyrise to your voodoo rack? I'm this close to pulling the trigger on the skyrise HD to put on my voodoo rack. How have you liked it through the summer? is it worth it? other reviews talk about the quality of the skyrise, but i think they were talking about the other one, not the HD version. Used it in heavy rain or winds? thanks in advance

I have been looking at the awnings they have. They are priced better than any other awning on the market.

 

No experience with the tent, but I did buy their fan/light. Worth adding to the cart before you check out if you need one IMO.

 

Since I've been at home alot more ( I still have to go into work, but get out early) did manage to mount the solar panel on the tent shell.

 

Weekend camping trip that turned into an overnighter after getting kicked out of the Red River Gorge area due to the Corona. My buddy Gotti pictured enjoyed the time out of the house for sure.

Preface
You'll note pretty quickly that this trip took place right near the beginning of what has become a worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. At the time of the trip, there had been approximately 600 cases and 24 deaths across the USA. 18 of those deaths were from the Life Care assisted living community in Kirkland, WA. Schools at all education levels were still open, and while some companies were starting to allow employees to work from home, it was not widespread, and definitely not mandated. There were no travel restrictions - or even really talk of such restrictions on a broad scale - in place. We were healthy, and hadn't had any high-risk contacts.

I say this to give some perspective, since things have clearly changed since then.

Day 1
Leaving home for adventure was a little different this time. Looking back now, as we headed south out of the Seattle area, we were leaving behind what would turn out to be one of the early epicenters of the Covid-19 outbreak, just before more info on the severity would come to light and large-scale cancellations and closures would become part of our world's lives. This was a trip like no other - and not because it would be full of amazing hikes and petroglyphs galore!

I wrote that post a few months ago. Nathan (the creator) has done a lot of work since then. In general though, I'd say that if you have BCN Pro, you're not missing out on anything major yet - there are still kinks to be worked out with XE. Eventually, the pros there will outweigh the cons of switching from the old version though.

At any rate, read that post and for sure shout if you have questions.

Yeah, first beautiful weekend we've had of the year so far and with everything being closed in KY, EVERYONE and their brother were out hitting the hiking trails.

 

anyone have a link to those kydex sheets that were used to protect the bed rack when taking the tent on and off?

The HD is a huge improvement over the first skyrises. I’d probably need a knife or a high PSI pressure washer to breach it.

I initially mounted the tent directly to the rack and it didn’t line up. Plus it sat off center. I ordered some aluminum extrusion and replaced the yakima mounting points. They come with some sort of gimicky universal feet. I can send you the dimensions and hardware list If you’d like. Rough cost was $80 for rail, t-slot M6 nuts, and bolts. I used some scrap aluminum to box the DIY rails into the rack.

I’ll post some more pictures for you today.

 

Im also wondering if a heat gun can be used. I have my tent off currently, because I was working on my rack.

I added some foam that usually goes between a cap and the bed rails - but in between my rack and the bed rails. And now I want to add some protection to my bars. But I wont be taking the tent on/off frequently. It lives on the truck unless major work needs to be done.
