    Hi all, new here...

I'm in the market for a new Toyota (2011), but unsure which to go for. Which of the above three would you consider the most off road capable? Keep in mind I will likely mod it at some point.

    Thanks!

I would trade my truck in for a trail edition 4runner in an instant if I could.

Fuck SUVs man. I hate the things...they feel top heavy, porky, and ungainly when driving, even when they aren't. Just too bloated. Especially the newer, fatter 4runner.

That said, realisitically, the FJ will probably be your best wheeler when all is said and done. Shortest wheelbase, slightly more capable suspension from factory.

The kind of off road found in and around Colorado, steep climbs, dirt and rocky. Cost isn't much of an issue, and don't really need the bed of the Tacoma but it's always nice on the few occasions that I might and it looks good. :D

FJ has the best approach and departure angles.

But if you're willing to get a standard cab, you can get a nice short wheelbase with a Taco. And once you lift it and stuff bigger tires under it, those angles aren't too bad.

Yeah, but then you gotta go aftermarket for lockers and you're not getting A-TRAC no how no way.

Honestly, the Tacoma only makes sense if you need a *truck* AND want to go offroad.

If you *just* want an offroad vehicle for that purpose, the FJ makes the most sense of the choices the OP posted.

A stock Rubicon will outwheel all of them...when it's running...

Blasphemy, How dare you insult the Taco!:DJ/K. I love my truck but also the the FJs. I drove one though and did not like the blindspots that it has. I don't haul alot but it is very nice to have the bed when you need it. Plust with the access cab I always get out of driving when I'm with my friends.

hmm... we have 4 doors. just not full size doors
this man always speaks the truth.
    especially the underlined portion :D
if you dont need a bed..get the FJ
the new runners are sweet...but too big for the fiance and I
    Different strokes for different folks..
make sure you get the 4x and everything you want the first time you are signing that 5 year contract. test drive them all and get what YOU truly want/need.Saving money buying a 2wd may cost you more $$ in the long run when you realize you regret not buying 4x.
    ask me how i know:D
And if you need a bed.. Tacoma all the way!
sorry...not trying to convince the guy he SHOULD buy an fj

As most are saying, out of the box the fj is the most capable out of your choices. Also it has the most after market support and being that you are in CO you could participate in the FJ summit that I envy oh so much.

Yeah....if you wanna keep your sheckles, there are two options:

    1) Convert to something other than Judaism so you can call your sheckles something else.

    2) Leave TW.

In the many videos I've watched it seems the Taco is more agile than the FJ which seems a bit clumsy. It appears to me that the weight of the FJ might hold it back even with the shorter wheel base. What yall all think? Am I crazy?
