Yes.. it's a pain waiting for the full 15 seconds. It would be absolutely fantastic if someone could find a TechStream setting to change this timeout to about 5 seconds . . .

 

Not sure what you mean by this. Did you just move the gear shifter from D to S and bump the shifter to 6?

 

I moved the shifter to S and then into 5th Gear which in effect locks out 6th gear. The transmission will still downshift into lower gears, it just never goes past 5th when upshifting. JH

 

my understanding is that the shift points are different in s-mode, so you may have achieved the same or better mpg results by setting it to 6th as well. there's about a million threads about mpg, shiftpoints, ect, and s-mode.

So,
I am looking at a 2017 TRD Off Road truck. Going to look at it today, at a dealer. Looks really clean and only has 25K miles on it. IS there anything I should look for and anything you guys can think of that would help me when I test drive it? . I have a 09 Tacoma, and love it, but I can get into this newer one.

 

Crawl under and look for mud/rust. Probably a good truck though!

 

Thanks, I planned on that, learned my lesson on the 4runners I bought. I also heard about the hood vibration issue. Otherwise, I think, this may have a new home.

 

Within the first week of having mine (before first payment and before it had tags), I changed the front and rear diff fluid. Not because I thought the fluid was bad but because I wanted to see how much metal was in the fluid and attached to the magnet. Did the same for the transmission (just the pan, not a fluid swap).
If I didn’t like what I saw then I was going to take it back to the dealership.
Of course my truck had 40k miles on it when I bought it so it was almost time for that service anyways.

 

Hmm, good idea.. I might have to also.. I will definitely be looking at checking the service records for this and keeping it up to date on those if I do pull the trigger.

 

Study the CarFax for it. There is often a good amount of info (and possibly insight) there.

 

Is it attached by double sided tape? Or is the pressure from the cut enough to hold?

 

I think all the Velcro tape has double sided tape. It is just a small piece , maybe size of nickel or slightly larger.

The 6 speed auto in my Tacoma hasn't learned shit. It's just as terrible after 4 months and nearly 7000 miles as it was on day 1. I don't know where people are getting this nonsense, but my assessment of the auto is that it's programmed to maximize fuel economy, but it doesn't seem to do much for real world mileage. Plus the 3.91 gears make it even worse, especially on even the slightest hilly terrain. Regearing to 4.88 or 5.29 is pretty much a necessity.
