Yeah its a madhouse, like most of the front range. Luckily I was only passing through at the end of a long trip.

Weird...never had a problem with the headlights either.

Although I drove a small freightliner for work for a few years and those headlights were really bad...they only lit up about 12 ft in front of you, and the brights were as bright as normal headlights. It was a 2016 model M2.
So I guess coming from that, most modern vehicles would be better

I guess it's a trade-off. My '96-'97 Jimmys and Blazers and even my '99 Silverado doesn't scratch but the rattles and squeaks are more than you would tolerate in a new car.

In OPs defense the plastic Toyota chose to use is not conducive to a place that is inherently subject to getting kicked, scratched, nicked, skuffed, marred and manhandled by you, your kids, animals, friends, inlaws or outlaws. 30+ years as a self employed auto detailer I've been inside just about every make and model of vehicle from the 5k beater to the 500k exotic and I will say the plastic in my Tacoma is just overly soft and subject to scratching way to easily. My 87 Tacoma, my 1st and 2nd gen were the same way. Super soft plastics that scratched with the slightest touch.
Just like the paint on the exteriors of vehicles there are softer clearcoats and there are harder clearcoats and they run the gamut depending on the manufacturer and price of vehicle has no bearing on this. Plain and simple they could have gone with a different compound that is less susceptible to these things. My Tundra and Rav do not have this issue so I do know how they missed the mark on the Tacoma line all together but they have.
It's definitely a minor issue in grand scheme of things and the Tocoma is a damn fine truck at the end of the day regardless but damn really?

Can someone cite an example of a vehicle with "expensive" plastic?

From my own experience; Softer plastics feel better but wear more easily. Harder plastics don’t wear to the same degree but feel shitty and squeak and look crappier. I have never liked the interiors in my father-in-law’s Ford trucks as they always had a hard, shiny ugliness to them. There seems to be a trade off here.

Tactile experience with plastics is a big deal in automotive interiors as well as in other industries where a person comes into close contact with plastic...

My ‘05 Tacoma had such a soft plastic interior that the seat belt wore a mark on the pillar trim. Of course that didn’t stop the truck from lasting me over a decade and a half million kilometres.

Maybe just be a bit more cautious with something that cost you $34,000?

+1 to clip your nails, take a file to the edges if they're that sharp too. The separators are supposed to come out for easier cleaning. As far as "cheap plastic" goes the people I've heard of test driving the big 4 (Ranger, Tacoma, Canyon and Colorado) have said Toyota 100% feels the most premium.

My Mk7 GTI interior was fantastic, especially for the price. It was durable, pliable and beautiful. Hands down best non luxury initial build quality I've ever seen. It also probably would have warped, peeled and cracked well before my Tacoma will.

The Tacoma interior trim plastic does scratch surprisingly easy but if it holds up from cracking or any other serious problems over the long haul I'll consider minor scratching a worthwhile trade.

The interior plastic might be great in VW's but they can't design a window regulator, coil pack, sensor, timing chain tensioner or transmission that can last

I totally agree. The whole interior looks crappy, and I thought so even before I bought mine. I thought I would get used to it, but NO! So after careful research and thought, I decided to modify my interior. Here is a video of what I did. I think you might like it!

Eh, it wasn't a big deal. Drink whats left in the cup, bail out the cupholders, soak up whats left with a towel, wipe it down with some hand sanitizer. I was camping, so I had all the cleaning stuff handy.

Now if it had been on the carpet....:annoyed:

The leather compliments the wood trim pretty well. I prefer my black interior, but that came out pretty good. I didn’t like the wood trim as much before the leather. After the leather, it reminds me of an 80’s Mercedes.
    Good job bro. Enjoy!
