ha yep, bottom one is the 3.0 just removed it. 2.8 was a backup but the winner is the 2.5 up top. Should have had it completed but Jr. not a big fan of the impact.

Still on the 8" and will be for awhile but the curry 9" is a popular add. Pricy but I hear its worth it.

I just spit chocolate milk all over the place. ~$5500 ready to rock and I still have to put my own brakes on it. I need like a 9" junk yard pull off that I can beef up myself. I have 4.88's already. This 4.86 is as close as they get. I have to double check those ratios.

If thats the money they command, I'd rather pickup that TIG I wanted and do it myself.

ha yah I pretty much did the same thing with the beer in my hand. I knew they were pricy but never really looked. You could possibly get a 3rd gen rear which is 8.75 and toss some 4.88 in there. Prob can find that one easier. The bigger chevy/ford setups will be wider.

ECGS offers a Dana 60 but still pricey. There is a guy with 4.88 and disc brakes on one that may be selling soon in PA.

What size tires you running? If stock then honestly I wouldn’t worry about it. You’ll smoke the rear tires with more power before breaking axles or gears. Bigger tires and more traction, yeah you might look into axle options. Right now, ECGS offers a bolt in Dana 60 for our trucks and Currie offers a bold in ford 9”. Those are both gonna be stock width, “bolt in” options with minor fab work and will retain all abs and wheel speed sensors however I do believe you lose the parking brake. Other option if you’re ok with going about 2” wider is a newer tundra axle. A buddy and I were really looking into trying this as it should retain abs, wheel speed sensors, and parking brake as well. However we didn’t like the gearing and locker options available so we stopped pursuing it.

The rear disc on the Dana retains the parking brake. However, it is much less effective than stock due to size of the caliper and surface area as compared to the stock drum parking brake.

    @snowsk8air2 35's

@mightytacoman him and I are already in talks

@zippsub9 I'll keep an eye out. Also, If I do rear disks. I'd definitely go Big Brake with parking brake/ e-brake.

@HolyHandGrenade has an amazing build with a Dana 60, and Disc Brakes already. He is trying to sell the truck whole but may part out. I am pretty sure the engine and tranny have to sell first before anything else, but I would jump all over the rear axle.

Yeah I’d look into the Dana 60, tundra, or Currie 9” axles. Really you can do anything, just depends what features you want to keep. I really don’t know what I’ll end up doing at this point. I want to keep speed sensors and abs if possible and need the availability for 5.29 gears and a selectable locker. Which leaves me with the Currie 9”, I just don’t like their cost lol

ECGS 60 retains the wheel speed sensors. Mine has an air actuated OX locker and 35 spline Chromoly axles. It’s 4.88, but you must be able to put 5.29s in a 60.

Not trying to sell it to you, just passing along info.

Also, the ECGS 60 requires no fabrication other than a shorter driveshaft. It has all of the brake line tabs, axle perches, etc welded on.

And it does retain the parking brake because it’s designed to reuse your factory drum brakes. Although I opted to put discs on mine, along with a Sequoia MC.

The disc brake kit can have a parking brake that uses the factory cables if you want. Mine has no parking brake.

And... more important than big rear discs is the Sequoia MC to actually get enough fluid back to the calipers.

Yup, my previous post said it retained the wheel speed sensors and what not. I just wasn’t sure about the parking brake.

Last I checked the 60 had options for 5.13, but not 5.29. Which honestly I’d be ok with except you can’t get that for the front diff. I’m at least another year away from doing an axle swap.

Also feeling the sad that you’re selling your rig. It’s a sweet build but I understand the need to sell

Ah, OK. I never looked into 5.29s so I wasn’t sure.

Thanks man. Honestly, I’m bored with driving around in circles at off-road parks, and I also Just don’t have time for the truck anymore.

was going to note the master as well. If your not a sport of sr5 then it gets abit harder. The ATRAC masters are electronic and you can’t swap out the master. I’ve been looking into The 4runner master with ATRAC and if that’s possible since your essentially using 4runner brakes in the rear when you do the disc conversion. that master should support front and rear discs. I haven’t seen it done yet. If you could it’s not a cheap swap for the booster/master of possible. The sequoia master is not a big cost of you cam do it.

I have a disc conversion setup I have yet to install due to hesitation due to Not being able to swap masters

You should swap to the 4runner master and let me know how it goes. Dealing with squishy pedal syndrome since I did my caliper swap. That stated, brakes are noticeably better than stock and if you give the brakes a quick pump the pedal firms up nicely
