Quick question. I recently bought a 2003 Regular Cab Tacoma 2wd bought it mainly for work. I didn't have enough money for a 4x4 but instead of buying or trading the one I bought I want to convert it 4x4. Is it the same steps as converting a double cab? or would steps be a bit different? I haven't seen any videos on regular cabs.

    Welcome to TW! :hattip:

    Is your truck a 5-lug or a 6-lug?

If it's a prerunner, it's very convertible. Best bet is to find a junkyard and get all the parts from one there. I think the only real difference between the different cab/bed configurations is the rear driveshaft.

Do a search, there's been a few of these conversions documented here.

Ugh that's lame. I've seen people weld cages around them.

    Or lower it :D

Welcome to the regular cab club.

Move to a state with no emissions testing; My friend's car wouldn't pass Pennsylvania's emissions testing because the catalytic converted went bad, so he cheated the system by registering it in South Carolina where his parents had a vacation home, and where they don't have inspections :D

Seriously though, I didn't even know people stole catalytic converters anymore. Parking your truck in a well-lit area would help, maybe...?

And the welding of a cage sounds like a good idea too!

Yea sounds like a really good idea. Im from California about 40 minutes outside of LA. There’s been a lot of break ins my apartments recently so I’m going to have to look into a good alarm system as well

California also has annoying and strict emissions regulations; Will insurance cover the cost of replacing the cat?

Insurance you can totally do over the internet without even having registration yet. Heck I did it from another country.

Just go to an insurer's website and get a quote. Usually they'll want an email, maybe a VIN? It's pretty easy. I've got Geico and they've been fine, but it's worth shopping around. They've got get a quote right on their home page. Theyll email it to you and then you can choose to buy or not. If you do then you can print out insurance cards, get them through their app or they can mail them.
