This just brought back good memories. My friend had an Odyssey back in the day. I remember being in the trails behind his house - while he was driving I'd be standing on the back of it holding onto the roll cage pulling/leaning back and we'd ride wheelies lol

1500 would be nice I'll see how motivated he gets, did mention lot's of people are flaking out and not exactly lining up to meet strangers. I hear ya man... decisions decisions

I want stuff like this again. I miss having my motocross bikes and 3 wheeler. This is why I want to move to Kentucky and get like 20 acres. Will build my own track, trails and range.

There was a thread on the HD forums about old pictures of bikes, etc from long ago. This fits the bill! Wonder if anyone else has pictures like this

Which is absolute horseshit. Once tax is paid for an item that item has been taxed. Period. North Carolina roads are in too piss-poor condition for the amount of money being collected from vehicle taxes. Louisiana is even worse.

Uncle Sam is gettin his money one way or another.
It’s pretty damn stupid though that you gotta pay tax on something used. It’s already been taxed once, shouldn’t be taxed again

Yeah. it's not like they spend the money where they say they are going to either. Back during the Deep Water Horizon incident it came to light that the Feds had been collecting something like a 10-15% tax on every barrel of oil produced domestically since the 60's or 70's to fund a department to pay for equipment and training for oil spill response. The first purchase made by that department was the day after the incident and they sent BP the bill. Makes you wonder where all of that money actually went. Same with all of the federal money that had been sent to New Orleans pre-Katrina to maintain and upgrade the levees that ended up shitting the bed after Katrina.

I had a close call yesterday evening.

I was out riding in my local neighborhoods at a sedate pace, just cruising around. While going down one of the main roads, I noticed a car on an intersecting road (I had right-of-way) sitting way back from the stop sign, then it began to creep forward to get closer to the stop sign. There was no reason for the driver to do that, so that tells me he was doing something on his phone.

I decreased my speed and kept an eye on him while watching the road ahead. As I got closer, just exactly as I had feared, he began to pull out in front of me. If I didn't know any better, I would have sworn it was an intentional action to intimidate me with his car. I applied emergency braking and got my bike safely stopped, then proceeded to scream questions and obscenities at this guy. He just sat there with a stupid look on his face.

Once I got a close look at him, I realized that he was just a crappy driver. The car was covered in dents and other damage, he was wearing a hoodie (with the hood up), and just tons of other red flags. I went straight home after that since my adrenaline was flowing, and put the bike away in the garage. I'm confident that without the education I got from the safety course, along with the hours I spent practicing emergency avoidance techniques in my local parking lot, I would have dumped the bike last night... or worse.

Stay safe out there, everybody. There may be fewer cars on the road right now, but that doesn't mean the drivers are any more attentive or sober.

you did right @MagtechPA you slowed down and that usually saves lives...
I think they say something along the lines of like 75% of all accidents are within the first or last 1/2 mile of a trip
and often enough it is those sedate areas where we let our guard down most...

now all that being said, I often wear a hoodie and more often than not I keep my hood up lol

Im looking to change my bars on my 06 Sporty to apes. Bars have been ordered and cable kit arrived. I bought a speedo mount off ebay that doesnt have the indicator lights in it (my fault for not looking closer). Anyway im looking for ideas for the speedo mount and riser. Has anyone changed their bars on an early 2000's sportster that had the big ugly factory riser? Also trying not to spend an arm and a leg. Circled is the part im replacing. Thanks

Good job anticipating what the driver was going to do.

I realized a long time ago that keeping your head on a swivel and expecting people to do dumb things will keep you out of a tough spot 99% of the time. My dad preached it when he was teaching me how to drive (he had been an offensive driving instructor for military and civilian police), my instructors preached it when I was going through emergency vehicle operations training, my MSF course instructor preached it, and every firearm course I've taken has preached it.

Being aware of your surroundings is absolutely crucial.

Thanks for the positive feedback, everybody. It was scary but had a good outcome, and it certainly will not dissuade me from getting back on the bike.
