My mechanic told me ..... do not use cheap gas....

I used to have Costco membership, mechanic made kind a face so he mentioned Shell, Chevron, Exxon, Texaco

Per several years I did Shell with the membership discount or phone number to just have $3 cents of discount per gallon.

When Exxon launch the membership programmed , I notice bigger discount ..like $5 cents per gallon... then later they came up with the
Exxon App .... I noticed how fast you can accumulate points.... 100 points are equal to a dollar, 3/4 of tank gives like 60/80 points , so anyway I been redeeming 5 dollars, 10 dollars, here and there so I noticed big savings and the quality of Exxon \ Mobil is good. Using Mobil 1 products you can also redeem 100s of points, I called with barcode and receipt and they gave a lot of points I don't recall how many exactly , but it accumulate points \ cents easily.

I use the app also to locate the stations on the roads,
You can pay with the APP from your phone before exiting the vehicle.
That is convenience when rains, to hot or to cold for few seconds count.
No need to be typing zip code at the pump , inserting card and dealing with wallet, that is security, the pasword 4 digits is giving at the phone when you park next to the pump so app let you know once pump is authorized to fuel, in general easy way to pay , you can leave your wallet and phone in the car , just got to grab keys ..lol...anyway:hattip:
You don't need to deal with paper receipts, the app keept the records and receipts are sent by email.

I like the Tiger running logo since I imagine my cat as my little tiger nice companion. Also around my house Exxon keep the price as Cheap as Walmart and Murphy stations, there is not brainy on choosing the best for less price, keep away from Murphy, is not on the list of Top Tier Brands..... If the road got me without the TOP 3 mentioned 1st then I will do Valero or Phillip 66 , Amoco.... but just in case of extreme necessity .... most of times I rather thank when I'm 1/2 empty , somehow I think the 1st 1/2 of tanks gives more miles than the last 1/2 and stopping on road often is more healthy.TRUCK is still giving me what the window sticker said 18 years ago .....17 City \ 19 Highway... I'm cool with that.

Here is the list of TOP Tier Detergent Gasoline..... I would like to know which is ETanol free ? I think all have a % 5 /10 % ? I will check pump next time......:burnrubber:

It all depends what state your in.

I can only speak from pulling gasoline tankers it pretty much all comes out of the two tanks regular and premium the mid grade is blended The driver tests the tank for water before dropping if the tank tests positive phone calls are made .

It has been some years things may have changed.

Then it all gets even more confusing some name brand stations are company owned others are independent the independent owned stations are at the bottom of the distribution list

My wife and I own a small no name gas station. The people we have who haul our gas bring us whatever is the cheapest on the market the day we need it. One day we may get one brand and another day we may get another. Gas is gas. We run it in her 2019 Suburban and many other customers new cars and haven't had any issues.

With gas prices about to noze dive, all big name gas companies with all their additives will be forced to lower their costs to be competitive with inexpensive gas. Talk is, gas may get to $1.75 a gallon soon, additives included, heh.

Funny how places always claim they don’t make money on gas. That actually seems pretty decent, especially if you own a place that does decent volume

99% of the time we make pennies on the dollar on gas. Insurance, UST permits, credit card fees, etc, etc, etc, stores like ours don't make much on gas most of the time. Large named stores make way more on gas/diesel because volume and they buy more and haul it themselves. Getting people inside is where stores make most of their money. We have one 2,000 gallon tank and usually pump on average 400 gallons a day. We do good to stay afloat, most of the time.

The gas is the draw the money is made on the goodies.

No one that has not paid the bills understands overhead comesout first.

That is exactly right. People think we're making a lot of money and can let them borrow $20 worth of gas until pay day. They don't understand everything in our store is already paid for, by us and we don't have $20 in gas to loan out.

In the last several years, probably close to a decade now, I've been getting gasoline from grocery retail chain stations because of their discount program which may result in $0 in a 30-gallon fill up. A good friend of mine plays a rather complicated e-money scenario with this chain and ends up with tons of free gasoline that he sells to me at half price. I run the gasoline I buy from this chain on all of my vehicles with engines ranging from naturally-aspirated with lower to very high compression ratio to turbocharged with high compression ratio; thank goodness for direct injection (in some cases). I never have engine problems related to fuel quality and octane requirements running gasoline from this no-name chain.

As far as pricing goes, the retail price from this chain is slightly higher than average within Central Ohio area, extremely rare that their price, as individual station, is the lowest in the area. As a background, gasoline retail prices in Central Ohio fluctuate daily (sometimes multiple times) and, in general, follow a sawtooth-like pattern with a spike (varying from 10c to 60c per gallon) occurring on Wednesday on average. This pattern consistently happens when there is no special global event such as this pandemic.

Both my 95.5 model year Tacos came with locking fuel door, which matches ignition key. They are low option (manual windows/locks) trucks, so I assume it was standard then. You could get the fuel door and have it re-cored. Of course body color would be different.

Not sure how many years had it, but somebody will probably let us know...

Edit: Camelback Toyota shows the door and a cylinder/key set for 95 model Taco:

Depends on your area here in Louisiana we have Marathon Refinery,Exxon Mobil Refinery,Chevron Refinery,Shell Refinery,Valero Refinery. So some of the cheaper stations here get their gas from any of these refineries which are all big brands they just buy at the cheapest price for the day.So I’m not scared to use Racetrack gas which is one of the cheaper stores down here

I'm not brand loyal when it comes to fuel. However, I do stick to the Top Tier list. In my area, Shell, BP, Marathon and Costco are close to my neighborhood. So it's usually one of them...though I have been on Costco kick lately.

If you look at the lists for top tier it pretty much includes all the gas you see in your town. Maybe 1 or 2 that are not on the list. I'd say your safe to buy the cheapest in town and it's still top tier. It might not have the additives that Chevron or Shell have but that can be fixed with some Chevron fuel system cleaner added.
