What is that tube made out of that can't be found at a salvage yard or automotive parts store? Seems like you should be able to yank something out of an engine bay, cut to size, and clamp on, or am I missing something?

Yes, sort of. If you want a clean run, the HPS tube goes from the air box to the TB and has the EGR (?) line as part of it. If you just want to cut out the resonator section, then the parts store might have something as long as the left and right diameters are the same. As you can see in the OP kludge, it ain't pretty and probably causes worse performance?

I think air intake setup is a little different for the I4. I think our resonator is integrated into the engine cover and possibly the EGR but I'm not sure.

Just found the below info from afe which confirms that the resonator is in fact just the resonator for the 4 cylinder, but one would need to reroute the vaccuum hose and breather hose somehow, if removing the resonator.

Correct, just a resonator ;) and underneath that, the magnificent valve cover. Easy mod though.

Since the I4 has the vacuum hose and breather hose integrated into the resonator chamber I need to figure out how to remove the resonator and reroute those hoses appropriately. I am by no means a mechanic or fluid dynamic expert so I'm hesitant to rip into anything without a good idea of how I would reroute/connect those.

Except adding noise, none of these intake mods are going to add any power. I don't think I would even care to mess with it unless adding some forced induction or raising the intake point and sealing the system from water.

Removing the resonator has aesthetic value, It opens up more space on the I4, showing the dialed in design and overall harmony of the engine bay. Outside of that, it does nothing. I’m not a fan of the added noise so I haven’t done it.

I just emailed HPS directly with a suggestion for a post MAF-to-throttle body, resonator delete, air intake tube that includes ports for the vacuum hose and breather hose. Hopefully they can either tell me "this product will do the trick" or "give us a few weeks and we'll fabricate one". I know I'm not the only bastard sword out there that wants one.

    From Me to HPS:

"Hi, I have a 2016 Toyota Tacoma 4-cylinder. I would like to run an air intake tube from the stock airbox (after the MAF) to the throttle body directly and remove the stock resonator box above the engine cover. In order to do this I need to reroute the vacuum hose and breather hose from the resonator box to the new tube. Do you make something that would allow me to accomplish this, or alternatively would you be able to fabricate something that would do this?

There are many people with the 4-cylinder on tacomaworld.com that want to bypass their resonator boxes for aesthetic value (under hood simplicity and deeper intake growl), without using a 3rd party cold air intake (cai), because many of us believe the stock airbox configuration will preserve engine longevity and a 3rd party cai will decrease performance (mpgs) and engine longevity.

Please let me know if this is possible with an existing product you have or whether you would be willing to fabricate a part to accomplish this."

    From HPS:

    "Hi Peter,

Thanks for your inquiry and feedback.

We forwarded the request to our R&D team and they will be working on this in the next couple weeks. The lead time for the first prototype is about 2 months from now.

    Best Regards,

Anyone have any pictures or sound clips with the HPS hose kit?

My Butt Dyno says more low end. Ecu took some time but now they're best friends. I feel like I never take it out of 5th on the highway now, instead of constantly downshifting to 4th to pass before.

Mpgs are identical to slightly better. A little more cab noise but honestly the 4 banger is a little louder than the 6, so it was already a little noisy. Definitely want the equal length exhaust header to pair with this.

Much cleaner under the hood, and changing spark plugs/coils feels much less daunting now.

Anything specific you want to know?
